<span style="font-weight: 400;">There is no question the race for the Mary Ostrowski Award is close almost every year in the mountain state. The award, given to the best player in the state throughout the season. Below we take a look at the top five frontrunners so far this season.</span>
<b>[player_tooltip player_id="153323" first="Kalissa" last="Lacy"] - George Washington - 2021 - Guard</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">You can’t go wrong with the reigning champ. [player_tooltip player_id="153323" first="Kalissa" last="Lacy"] last year as a junior, became the seventh underclassman to ever win the award and she is back in position for a chance at it this year. The 5’9 Morehead State signee has had a very successful season leading the Patriots to 11-3 heading into the postseason. Lacy, known as a deep threat, averaging 22.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, while leading George Washington up to number three in the final AP Poll.</span>
<b>[player_tooltip player_id="153370" first="Marley" last="Washenitz"] - Fairmont Senior - 2022 - Guard</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">There is no surprise, one of the most aggressive players in the state is making some noise. WVU commit, [player_tooltip player_id="153370" first="Marley" last="Washenitz"] has had a phenomenal junior season, leading the Polar Bears to a perfect undefeated regular season. Washenitz leading Fairmont Senior to 13-0 and maintaining the number one spot all year long in the AP Poll. Washenitz getting it done all around, averaging 19.1 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds per game. If the numbers don’t show for it then I don’t know what does, Washenitz can get things done in any way on the offensive or defensive side.</span>
<b>[player_tooltip player_id="153322" first="Baylee" last="Goins"] - Nitro - 2021 - Guard</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">The top scorer in the whole state last year is having another dominant season. Leading the Nitro Wildcats to 12-1 in the regular season and maintaining being a top 5 team throughout this season. Goins, having a deeper Nitro team this year averaging 20 points, 7.8 assists, 5.2 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. Offensively Goins being able to do it all, she will get her own and has hit the 2,000 career points mark.</span>
<b>[player_tooltip player_id="153373" first="Amya" last="Damon"] - Saint Joseph Central - 2022 - Guard</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Greenbrier East transfer, [player_tooltip player_id="153373" first="Amya" last="Damon"], a key piece to the Irish’s success this season. Damon, the leading scorer for the Irish and one of the top in the state this season is looking to get through a battle-tested postseason. Damon has led the Irish to a 10-2 regular season, with only losses to top AAA teams in Fairmont Senior and Logan. Saint Joseph Central has also maintained to be a top-eight team all season in the AP Poll. Damon, averaging 21.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game this season. The Irish look to get back to the state tournament after being moved up two classes from last year.</span>
<b>[player_tooltip player_id="153321" first="Kaitlyn" last="Ammons"] - Morgantown - 2021 - Forward</b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Lastly, we will go inside, with a long, athletic, and versatile centerpiece in Ammons. Ammons being the most-recruited 2021 in the state, signing with Depaul, has had a dominant senior season. Standing at 6’3, Ammons is one of the tougher matchups to stop inside. Leading the Mohigans to 9-2 in the regular season with seven of the wins against ranked teams throughout the state, along with staying top eight in the AP Poll all year long. Ammons, averaging 17.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game, is looking to make a postseason run.</span>
