Race For The Legacy: Stock Rising Guards 17U Below is a list of guards who were making noise during the Race For The Legacy event in Waukesha Wisconsin. These guards displayed multiple skills on the floor that helped themselves and their teammates be successful. Tune in! [player_tooltip player_id="156068" first="Payton" last="Rechlicz"] | 5’10 | CBA U-17 Gold Rechlicz displayed a high level of athleticism on the floor during the tournament. She has a great feel for the game and natural instincts that seem almost effortless. She has dynamic ability with a clear high basketball IQ. The 5’10 guard didn’t force much on either end but still was able to get a bucket when her team needed it. Ella Day | 5’10 | CBA U-17 Gold Day is a versatile prospect who can put up consistent numbers on the floor. She moves well within the offense and is very patient when creating her game. She can attack off the dribble and is a mismatch almost anywhere on the floor. She’s improved her mid range shot and can now truly be considered a three level scorer on this CBA team. [player_tooltip player_id="63033" first="Molly" last="Joyce"] | 5’7 | CY Select Wolves 2022 Alpha Joyce has all the intangibles that help Cy Select Wolves be as successful as they have been. She creates an impressive tempo with the basketball and facilitates extremely well. She has the court vision to find her guards in transition and dish to her post player on the block. Joyce is unselfish but smart- she knows when to attack and when to be a play maker. [player_tooltip player_id="204130" first="Avery" last="Poole"] | 5’8 | Let It Rain 2022 Black Poole continues to improve her game and show she has so much in her bag. She’s an athletic guard with impressive length and skill on the perimeter. She is a player who understands how to get to the spot and get herself the open shot. She has a shooters touch- look for Poole to add some consistency and be a force behind the arc as the summer continues. [player_tooltip player_id="262980" first="Makenna" last="Rohrscheib"] | 5’10 | Team Wisconsin 2022 Select Black Rohrscheib stands out for her ability to find her teammates open and work extremely hard each possession. She wasn’t the top scorer for her team during the Race For The Legacy but made her presence known in many other ways. She’s a competitor- diving after loose balls, pushing the tempo and finding her teammates open on a dime. She didn’t force much offensively but had impressive decision making when she decided to attack the rim or look for a shot from deep. Brianna Dahl | 5’8 | Wisconsin Academy 2022 Wellnitz Dahl has great athleticism and strength on the floor. She’s versatile defensively due to her underrated strength and length- she can defend the perimeter but also use her body well inside for this team. She ran some impressive sequences in the pick-and-roll from the wing where she showed the ability to score herself or distribute. She has very impressive movement off the ball. Vanessa Ahman | 5’9 | Wisconsin Impact 2022 Nikolic Ahman displayed great movement as well on the floor. She dives to the space and goes into contact well. She’s very good at finding pockets of space on the baseline, keeping her hands ready, and then elevating into a floater or dunk. She makes winning plays that may not shoot up in the box score; her high levels of efforts will take her far! [player_tooltip player_id="132390" first="Sarah" last="Newcomer"] | 5’10 | Wisconsin Impact 2022 Witt Newcomer is a dynamic guard that plays with high energy and explosiveness. She’s an impressive athlete that has a high ceiling. She is a multilevel sorcerer that brings an energetic sense to the game. She’s a highlight play waiting to happen in the open court. She is always running the break and getting out in front of the defense. She has quick handles to shift defenders as well that was hard to stop all weekend at Race For The Legacy. [player_tooltip player_id="171811" first="Tori" last="Kostuck"] | 5’6 | Wisconsin Shooters Kostuck improvises so well to create space for herself to get shot opportunities. She knows that not many people can pick-pocket her because of her low center of gravity, so she can virtually dribble for however long she pleases before finding an open window. Kostuck is crafty inside, shown by her creative floaters and runners. Her touch has always been soft, again, because of her height. She has some of the smoothest handles as well. Great at getting by the initial defender and sucking in the defense.
