Prep Girls Hoops Dakotas strives to cover and promote a wide range of prospects throughout North and South Dakota. So this offseason, the prospects that compete on AAU teams will obviously be covered but we also still want to promote those prospects that don’t have the opportunity to compete competitively in the offseason. This post is a start of that goal and movement, with a mixture of prospects covered in the Dakotas. The talent the state AA tournament offered is the beginning of that, with highly competitive basketball with great talent across the board.
[player_tooltip player_id="99730" first="Bailee" last="Sobczak"] - Rapid City Stevens - (6’0/Wing/2022) - A prospect that I wanted to mention as she hasn’t been mentioned enough for how talented she is. Bailee had some up-and-downs this season battling some type of knee ailment. She participated in the state tournament so that’s great news about her injury status. She was very impactful, leading the tournament in steals at a total of 10 in the three games and 2nd in total rebounds at 9.0 per game. Has some strong verticality to help her compete for offensive and defensive rebounds. Was also a consistent scorer averaging 11.0 per game. Per SD Attack website, Bailee will be competing with them this offseason.
[player_tooltip player_id="99770" first="Jaden" last="Matkins"] - Rapid City Stevens - (5’11/PF-C/2022) - Jaden is a starter down-low for Stevens and played heavy minutes throughout the tournament with 26.7 mpg. Jaden’s tournament stats don’t jump out at you but she did haul down 4 rebounds per contest. She has a muscular, athletic, and strong build to her, allowing her to move well in all directions.
[player_tooltip player_id="261377" first="Hannah" last="Friedman"] - Sioux Falls O’Gorman - (5’11/PF-C/2022) - Hannah is the starting “big” for O’Gorman. She plays her role well and it is a vital one. A highly intelligent prospect, judging on her acumen on the court. Plays with great positioning on the court and gives consistent effort. She makes the plays that don’t show up on the stat sheet.
[player_tooltip player_id="261381" first="Kira" last="Mentele"] - Sioux Falls O’Gorman - (6’0/PF-C/2023) - Kira is similar to Hannah in her role for O’Gorman and is her bench replacement, being an inch taller and a year younger. She averaged 3.7 ppg. and 3.7 rpg. in the tournament, averaging 16.7 minutes per game, coming off the bench. Kira has some solid upside in the 2023 class with her good length and movement. In the next couple seasons, she could blossom into a solid prospect in South Dakota.
[player_tooltip player_id="99735" first="Sidney" last="Thue"] - Brandon Valley - (6’1/PF-C/2022) - Sidney is an underrated prospect in the state of South Dakota and had a great state tournament, averaging an efficient 9.7 ppg. with a 57.1 field goal percentage. She hauled down 15 boards and added 4 steals and 3 blocks in the tournament. Sidney possesses great length at 6’1 and moves fairly well with her slender frame. She can defend on the wing and was able to move defensively on a driving [player_tooltip player_id="99730" first="Bailee" last="Sobczak"] when they matched-up. Not a power player inside, but makes up for it with her smooth touch around the rim. A skilled, finesse prospect with great height and length. She can most definitely compete at the next level.
