In most cases, it takes a team to win a championship. All you have to do is look at the programs that have won state championships in recent years and you will realize the talent. South Florida is no exception with some of the best prospects in the country.
Here are the best tandems around the area…part two.
[player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"]/[player_tooltip player_id="219924" first="Khadee" last="Hession"] - American Heritage (Delray)
[player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"] is a highly developed frontcourt player that is only halfway through her high school career. That is a scary thought for opposing teams in the area. The 6-foot-1 forward averaged 19.9 points and 13.1 rebounds per game last season for the Stallions. Moreover, Ramsey secured ten double-doubles for American Heritage. Against Miami Country Day, she had 19 points and 22 rebounds (10 offensive). Ramsey’s size and touch (65 percent) from the floor is on another level. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="219924" first="Khadee" last="Hession"] is a highly athletic prospect with a strong handle. The 5-foot-9 combo guard averaged 10.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.9 steals last season. I am impressed with her playmaking ability and overall volume on all fronts. Against Miami Country Day, Hession had 15 points, 11 boards and six assists. The Spartans are a very good team and her rebounding ability is impressive out of the position. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="151147" first="Taylor" last="Romano"] could very well factor into this group. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged ten points per game and can stretch the floor with her shot. Romano finished just behind Hession with 2.6 steals per game.
[player_tooltip player_id="154908" first="Enjulina" last="Gonzalez"]/[player_tooltip player_id="244206" first="Daimelys" last="Morera"] - Miami Christian
Can the Victors repeat in Class 2A without [player_tooltip player_id="91546" first="Gabriela" last="Bendeck"]? The 5-foot-4 point guard departs after averaging 15.1 points, six rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Second to her in scoring was [player_tooltip player_id="154908" first="Enjulina" last="Gonzalez"]. The 5-foot-9 guard averaged 12.9 points and six boards per game while shooting 47 percent from the field. Gonzalez is long and has the athleticism of a wing. Against Blanche Ely, she scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="244206" first="Daimelys" last="Morera"] is a nice scoring option out of the frontcourt. The 5-foot-10 forward averaged 9.8 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 42 percent from the floor. Moreover, Morera eclipsed her shooting percentage in 12 games. She has an opportunity for a big senior season on the offensive end.
[player_tooltip player_id="243895" first="Lena" last="Girardi"]/[player_tooltip player_id="151173" first="Claire" last="Erickson"] - Westminster Academy
The Lions had an incredible season before falling to Miami Country Day in Class 3A. Westminster Academy will need to replace 2021’s [player_tooltip player_id="91499" first="Emma" last="Wallhoff"], Addy Atkinson and Kiara Simone Davis off a 17-5 year. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="243895" first="Lena" last="Girardi"] certainly has some varsity experience under her belt after appearing in 21 games. The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 12.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game on 51 percent shooting from the floor. Moreover, Girardi went 19-of-48 (40 percent) from deep. Against Miami High (15-9), she scored 19 points and pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds (ten offensive). That is highly productive for any prospect from any class. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="151173" first="Claire" last="Erickson"] should return and be one of the leaders on the team. The 5-foot-9 point guard averaged 11.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and four assists per game. Erickson has great vision (79 assists) and knock down ability (30 3ptm) from the perimeter.
[player_tooltip player_id="219941" first="Madison" last="Aguilera"]/[player_tooltip player_id="91580" first="Riana" last="Doctor"] - Gulliver Prep
A healthy Doctor is a problem for opposing teams on the court. The 6-foot wing/forward averaged 14.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game across seven contests for the Raiders. Doctor’s size and shooting ability around the paint is tough to stop. She can use her frame equally as well on the defensive end to rebound and block shots. When you add her work in the classroom (4.82 GPA), she is one of South Florida’s best student-athletes. As I have stated in a previous article, you do not want to give [player_tooltip player_id="219941" first="Madison" last="Aguilera"] time or space to shoot. The 5-foot-4 guard has knocked down 82 3-pointers in her first two seasons for Gulliver Prep. Moreover, she shoots at a 45 percent clip. Aguilera will knock down 50-60 3-pointers and average 15+ points per game easily as a junior.
