Shake up in the 2023 class started in the fall as players started to finally compete after a long layoff. We found some players in gyms working out, others playing outside and many have started actual games. We combed through video, talked to coaches and watched a lot of live play and these are some of the players whose stocks have risen and a few who landed on the scene for the first time.
2023 Recap
Delaney Thomas Delaney Thomas 6'2" | C St. John's College | 2023 State MD – 6’3″ – C/W – St. John’s College
Delaney always showed potential but rose in the top based on showing her actual skill. She showed that she is more than a back to the basket post, she has a face up game and is able to put the ball on the floor in the perimeter. Expanding her already efficient mid range jumper into a consistent deep ball will be the next stage of her development and could have her in consideration for the top spot.
Channing Williams Channing Williams 5'4" | PG Shabach Christian Academy | 2023 State MD – 5’4″ – PG – Riverdale Baptist School
Channing has been playing national level varsity basketball since her freshman year. She only stands around 5’4″ but her speed makes up for any size disadvantage she may face. Her shot has been steadily improving making her a complete point guard for the next level.
Fadima Tall Fadima Tall 6'0" | PF Georgetown Visitation | 2022 State MD – 6’0″ – F – Georgetown Visitation
Fadima showed her ability to hold down the paint at the Elevate Elite Showcase. She was a consistent threat from the mid range and seeks and absorbs contact well. She is a player who stock has risen in the last month because of the effort she puts out on both ends of the floor.
Jade Tillman Jade Tillman 6'2" | PF Good Counsel | 2023 State MD – 6’2″ – F/W – St. John’s College
Jade was called upon to play center for BWSL when they needed her in a pinch and handled herself well. I was able to watch her put in work in a training session and she is developing her three point range. She has a college body already and is on track to be one of the country’s top wing players.
Gabby Grantham-Medley Gabby Grantham-Medley 5'7" | SF North Hagerstown | 2023 State MD – CG – St. James School
Gabby was one of the most sought after player in the offseason. She has been on the varsity level since middle school where she was a starter on one of the regions top teams. She has a little do everything in her game as she can work inside but also run the point. Maybe more suited as a combo, she can be effective anywhere on the court.
Alana Tate – 5’8″ – CG – Urbana
Alana is probably my favorite player in the DMV. She has a work ethic that is unmatched by most players. She has one of the best midrange shots that I have seen in years and is a really good finisher. She brings energy that lifts her teammates and while still under the radar, she has risen to a top three player in her class.
Sahnya Jah Sahnya Jah 6'1" | SF Bishop McNamara | 2023 #50 Nation FL – 6’1″- W – Bishop McNamara
Sahnya has improved every aspect of her game since her freshman year. She can shoot the three, start the break and finish in traffic. She is one of the top rebounders in the area and she alters oponent’s shots in the lane. If she continues to improve year to year at her current rate she can make a case for number one in the class.
