This list ranks a few of the standout players from this past Spring season in Maryland. All of these players are continuing to develop and grow right now during grassroots play this offseason, and all of them deserve immense attention from scouts and collegiate programs nationwide. This analysis serves to assist scouts and programs with their recruitment processes as well as to highlight the talents of local standout prospects.
2022 5’6 G [player_tooltip player_id="88785" first="Talia" last="Trotter"] – Sandy Spring – DC Premier
[player_tooltip player_id="88785" first="Talia" last="Trotter"] is an electric finisher around the basket. She shoots the ball well, but her true identity is a drive first guard with incredible finishing and facilitation skills. Three point shooting is an area where she can improve but she is more than capable of making shots from behind the arc. There’s no doubt whatsoever that Talia will continue to breakout during grassroots play and even during the next high school season.
2022 5’5 PG [player_tooltip player_id="137217" first="Myah" last="Simmons"] – Roland Park – Maryland Belles
If you’re looking for a leader on and off the court then look no further than [player_tooltip player_id="137217" first="Myah" last="Simmons"]. In one of her interviews last season, in response to her multiple game winning plays, she expressed that, “if I was in my head then I wouldn’t have been able to do what I did.” Myah’s quote really encompasses her play on the court because she plays freely and she lets the game come to her. She always brings her team together on and off the court and that is certainly why Roland Park has continued to soar in the rankings. Everyone should watch out for [player_tooltip player_id="137217" first="Myah" last="Simmons"] during grassroots play and especially during the Roland Park Reds’ upcoming season.
2022 5’10 SF [player_tooltip player_id="137224" first="Anani" last="Humphrey"] – St. Frances – Fairfax Stars
[player_tooltip player_id="137224" first="Anani" last="Humphrey"]’s game is already collegiate level and her numbers truly speak for themselves. She’s arguably the best all-around shooter on this list and she averages ten points a game as a result. She’s absolutely lights out from behind the arc, and, with her size, she will be incredibly efficient on both ends of the court at the college level. Anani is also a phenomenal defender who blocks a lot of shots and who gets rebounds consistently. With Anani on the roster, St. Frances Academy will be primed to make a run at GEICO Nationals next season.
2022 5’6 PG [player_tooltip player_id="137220" first="Sammera" last="Smith"] – Eleanor Roosevelt – Team Sol
[player_tooltip player_id="137220" first="Sammera" last="Smith"] is debatably the best overall player on this list and the reason is her overall game is incredible. Not only does she have the best running floater in the state, but she also shoots at a very high percentage from three. Sammera’s stellar ball handling allows her to blow by defenders with ease, and she uses either hand to do so and then to promptly finish around the basket or facilitate. Scouts and D1 programs everywhere should know the name [player_tooltip player_id="137220" first="Sammera" last="Smith"], and they should be especially on notice this upcoming season when Sammera will no doubt continue to dominate at point guard for Eleanor Roosevelt.
