Prep Girls Hoops was out in full force all day long as Angie Saiter, Adam Johnson and yours truly were all in the building watching these prospects all day on Sunday.
Stay tuned all week as we break down the top prospects in the various classes (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025/26).
Tonight, I start my look at some of the 2024 players I saw in action on Sunday. Reminder, there will be stories all week from various writers, make sure you check them out. Here is the first of three stories I will be doing with the 2024 class.
Top 2024 Prospects- Part 1
Brooklynn Vickers, 5-4 G, Brush
Impressive rising sophomore from NE Ohio who showed me an explosive first stop to the rim with her excellent foot speed and was able to finish well at the rim. She has an athletic frame and from the point guard spot, she was able to create shots or get her teammates involved. Brooklynn (feature photo above) has the ability to score with either hand. Solid defender with good court instincts.
Jordyn Smoot Jordyn Smoot 5'9" | CG Springfield Catholic | 2024 State OH , 5-8 G, Springfield Catholic Central
Having seen her multiple times this summer, it is safe to say you won’t get the same Jordyn as you have in the past. Sure, she will pressure the ball on defense, but she will have freedom to shine offensively also. She has good range and can get by her defender for an easy shot in the paint. Strong physical kid with a good upside. (pictured right)
Layla Merriweather, 5-5 G, Olentangy Berlin
Central Ohio was represented by several kids at this event including this guard who has a solid complete offensive game. She can score from the perimeter with good range out behind the arc, ir she can penetrate and score around the rim. Despite her size, she is not intimidated to get to the rim and score as she is very athletic.
AnnaSophia Tinnerello, 5-8 F, Thomas Worthington
She was an impressive kid also from central Ohio who impressed with at times with different parts of her game. She showed good footwork on the offensive end as she showed the ability to separate and get past her defender. Good basketball IQ, seemed to improve as the day went on.
Maggie Hawley, 5-3 G, Mentor
This NE Ohio guard showed good movement without the ball in her hands, and like Merriweather, she was very talented with her smaller size. Can cut to the rim and knows what she needs to do with the ball in her hands. She sees the floor well and can distribute well on the break. Like all of these listed today, her future looks bright with continued hard work and skill development.
