June is a big month for rankings throughout the Prep Girls Hoops Network, and for the Class of 2022, they start a lot of “lasts”…their last Summer of grassroots basketball, their last high school season, their last run at conference and state tournament titles, and their last opportunities to make impressions on college coaches who have been recruiting them. On the whole, the 2022 list expanded from 200 prospects to 225 prospects, and there was some movement throughout the entirety of the list. With regards to that movement, this is the first of three articles highlighting 15 prospects who moved up the rankings nine or more spots this time around. Below is a look at the first five ladies I felt really stood out with their play throughout the Spring.
Olivia Faust Olivia Faust 6'0" | SF Triton Central | 2022 State IN , 2022, 6-0 SF, Triton Central H.S. – In sports, a lot of times you see that with strength comes confidence. Olivia has always been a longer, thinner wing, but this Spring she looks noticeably stronger, she’s attacking the basket more, absorbing contact better, and just becoming a more natural all-around scorer. She’s a talented perimeter shooter, and that still remains the case, but her ability to make shots consistently from all three levels has her on a lot of college radars right now. She could have a big month.
Kelsi Langley Kelsi Langley 5'10" | SF Taylor | 2022 State IN , 2022, 5-10 SF, Taylor H.S. – Kelsi isn’t on this list for anything she necessarily did this Spring, but for her overall improvement in the last 12-18 months. Kelsi is a talent, and I feel like she has been somewhat overlooked by colleges because of her small school environment and/or her lack of grassroots play the last couple of years. She is a long, wiry-strong, fluid, and somewhat bouncy kid with a great feel for scoring the ball. She can shoot it from deep, pull-up in the mid-range game, or post smaller defenders.
Haley Polston Haley Polston 6'2" | C Martinsville | 2022 State IN , 2022, 6-2 C, Martinsville H.S. – I would say Haley has probably improved as much as anyone in this 2022 class over the last year, so much so that she doesn’t even look like the same kid from last Summer/Fall. This Spring she has played with great confidence and intent, she is much more instinctual now, plus her all-around skillset has improved. She has become a bit more explosive, too, but I really think as she added more skill and had small successes, her confidence grew, and now she’s seeing bigger successes.
Zoe Stewart Zoe Stewart 5'8" | CG Terre Haute North Vigo | 2022 State IN , 2022, 5-8 CG, Terre Haute North Vigo H.S. – Zoe committed to Murray State University back in March, and I think she has actually improved her play since then. She has always been a really nice, athletic talent, she can score the ball at all three levels, and she can create to find scoring opportunities or set up teammates. While she has always possessed skill and talent, I’ve been most impressed with her developing understanding of situations, plus she is taking care of the ball better and playing more efficiently.
Macey Timberman Macey Timberman 5'5" | PG Northview | 2022 State IN , 2022, 5-5 PG, Northview H.S. – Macey has been a double-digit scorer throughout her career at Northview. She does a nice job of using her speed, quickness, and length to create scoring opportunities, plus she has good ball skill and the ability to make shots at all three levels consistently. But as her game has matured, she has slowed down, allowed the game to come to her more, and she is taking care of the ball better and acting as a more traditional point guard who is capable of scoring, instead of being a scorer first.
