Let’s take a closer look at some of the top guards from the 2022 class.
#5| 2022 5’10 CG [player_tooltip player_id="27883" first="Gianni" last="Boone"] – St. John’s – Fairfax Stars
[player_tooltip player_id="27883" first="Gianni" last="Boone"] is a lights out shooter for the Cadets and her overall game has been improving during grassroots play this offseason. Her ability to drive to the basket and finish with both hands is now higher than ever which makes St. John’s that much more dangerous coming into the ’21-’22 season. Gianni will soon, rapidly, see more court time than she has seen in her entire high school career, but if she continues to play like she is at the moment then it will be a huge net positive for the Cadets. Her length also shows itself most on the defensive end where Gianni forces turnover after turnover. St. John’s has a GEICO Nationals type roster this season and [player_tooltip player_id="27883" first="Gianni" last="Boone"] is a rising star who is ready to supplant her legacy on the high school game.

#4| 2022 5’7 G [player_tooltip player_id="137227" first="Yanessa" last="Boyd"] – Frederick – Germantown Lady Panthers
If you’re looking for an incredibly efficient guard then look no further than [player_tooltip player_id="137227" first="Yanessa" last="Boyd"]. Her exceptional ball-handling and control allow her to be an ultimate facilitator, but she also finishes around the basket ambidextrously. The defensive end is where Boyd really thrives as she averages around two steals a game and always defends with intensity. Her teammates thrive off of her poise and leadership on and off the court, and there’s no question who the Frederick Cadets will look to for ball control this year. [player_tooltip player_id="137227" first="Yanessa" last="Boyd"] is primed for a big year this upcoming season.

#3| 2022 5’9 G [player_tooltip player_id="25972" first="Taniyah" last="Lawson"] – Archbishop Carroll- Team Durant
[player_tooltip player_id="25972" first="Taniyah" last="Lawson"] is without a doubt the stats leader on Archbishop Carroll, as she averaged almost seventeen points and five rebounds during their last full season. She can score from absolutely anywhere on the court and high school level defenders simply cannot stop her from doing so. Lawson also has impeccable rebounding ability on both sides of the court which allows her to get out into transition and either score or make the right pass. On her grassroots squad, Team Durant, Lawson continues to shine bright even with an elevated level of play around her. Everyone should beware of a [player_tooltip player_id="25972" first="Taniyah" last="Lawson"] led Archbishop Carroll team this season.

#2| 2022 5’6 G [player_tooltip player_id="88785" first="Talia" last="Trotter"] – Sandy Spring – DC Premier
There’s not a player on this list with a better stat line than [player_tooltip player_id="88785" first="Talia" last="Trotter"], and the reason is because she is an absolute bucket getter. In terms of flat-out scoring ability, it’s hard to find better than [player_tooltip player_id="88785" first="Talia" last="Trotter"]. She’s averaged 27 points and almost 5 rebounds in about twenty games played, and this all goes without mentioning her defensive prowess. If Talia can continue to improve on her facilitation skill then there’s a large possibility that Sandy Spring is one of the premier teams in Maryland next season. Trotter is one of the best scoring guards in the state and she will certainly prove it during the ’21-’22 season.

#1| 2022 5’8 G [player_tooltip player_id="88773" first="Kennedy" last="Fauntleroy"] – New Hope Academy – BWSL
[player_tooltip player_id="88773" first="Kennedy" last="Fauntleroy"] will, arguably, be the best overall player in the Senior class this upcoming season, and her New Hope Academy squad will certainly have a real chance at GEICO Nationals. In terms of overall ability, [player_tooltip player_id="88773" first="Kennedy" last="Fauntleroy"] is the top of the line and she continues to turn heads and impress during her grassroots play with Boo Williams. New Hope Academy coach Sam Caldwell has surrounded Fauntleroy with plenty of pieces to find national success, but it’s more than clear that [player_tooltip player_id="88773" first="Kennedy" last="Fauntleroy"] will be leading the charge for this team come winter time. New Hope Academy are more than legitimate threats to win GEICO Nationals this year.
