Top Five....
The 2023 class may go down as one of the most talented classes in South Dakota. Take a look at the top five and some stock risers.
[player_tooltip player_id="100467" first="Hilary" last="Behrens"]| 6’1| Brandon Valley| SD Network Bluestar 17U-Sean #1
Behrens made a huge announcement when she committed to South Dakota State University last week. The 6’1 Class AA All-State Team member is a perfect fit for the Jackrabbits. With a high skill set and motor, Behrens is looking forward to bring another championship back to Brandon Valley
[player_tooltip player_id="154266" first="Reese" last="Ross"]| 6’1| St. Thomas More| North Tarten EYBL 16U #2
Ross made waves this past high school season for St. Thomas More. Ross used that momentum to have a successful AAU season. At 6’1 Ross can be an all-tool type of player. Look for STM to move her around in their offense.
[player_tooltip player_id="100473" first="Brooklyn" last="Harpe"]| 6’0| Sioux Falls Washington| SD Network Bluestar 16U-Greg #3
20’-21’ was good to Harpe. One, a state championship. Two, a heck of a grassroot season. Three, her development went through the roof. The Warriors of Sioux Falls Washington are reassembling like the Avengers and Harpe will be a cornerstone in their request to repeat.
[player_tooltip player_id="100468" first="Avery" last="Broughton"]| 6’1| Corsica-Stickney| SD Attack 16U #4
Earlier this year Broughton committed to the University of South Dakota, a major in-state pickup. Missing most of last season with a knee injury, Broughton will be back in full force. The last we’ve seen her was day one of the state tournament in 2020, then Covid shut it down. She knows what it feels like to climb that mountain and will do whatever it take to get Corsica-Stickney back.
[player_tooltip player_id="100478" first="Olivia" last="Kieffer"]| 5’10| Rapid City Christian| SD Attack 17U #5
Another great pick up for the University of South Dakota, Kieffer is a playmaker for sure. She made Class A 2nd Team All State last year. Kieffer is a taller point guard that attacks well of the dribble. Very capable of controlling a game and distribution to her teammates.
Movement
[player_tooltip player_id="100471" first="Shalyne" last="Nagel"]| 5’10| Wagner| SD Attack #15 to #11
Not only did she move up the rankings, but Nagel made a move to Wagner from Avon. They seem to be loading up this year. Nagel is long and athletic and a great rebounder. You rarely have to call sets for her. She just creates scoring opportunities on her own.
[player_tooltip player_id="246473" first="Ellie" last="Lems"]| 5’10| Sioux Falls Christian| Pentagon Schoolers-Brown #27 to #13
Lems upward movement is a direct result of her development in an upward movement. Lems is a crucial component and apart of dynamic duo at Sioux Falls Christian. She moves well up and down in transition, defends at a high rate and can finish around almost anyone.
[player_tooltip player_id="100499" first="Zoey" last="Gerry"]| 5’11| Madison| Sacred Hoops #22 to #15
As a sophomore, Gerry was 3rd team all Dak XII conference. She plays with tons of energy and is like a bull in a china shop when coming through the lane. Very physical.
[player_tooltip player_id="100480" first="Trinity" last="Watson"]| 5’7| Florence/Henry| Pentagon Schoolers-Johnson #24 to #16
Watson was an unknown before the high school season. However, throughout the season, she developed into a go-to player for the Falcons. She’s another extremely aggressive and motivated player. Hard to keep in front of you and hard to contain. My type of player.
