Two things, Heather Baymon Heather Baymon 5'6" | PG Langham Creek | 2024 State TX (Langham Creek) was on the bench coaching, she’s out with an injury and Kendall Sneed Kendall Sneed 5'7" | CG Hardin Jefferson | 2024 State TX (Hardin Jefferson) was mentioned in the Top Point Guard story
Taylor Gerard-(Dulles)
Gerard is “long and athletic” and let me remind you “that’s the base” many college coaches look at, so throw in she’s 6’2, handles the ball in the open court, and can drop the long ball yet seeing her play the passing lane and score after the steal or show good timing to block, alter or deflect shots add fuel to the fire
Nicolette Polocheck Nicolette Polocheck 6'0" | PF Memorial | 2024 State TX (Memorial)
Polocheck is just a #BEAST around the basket, rebounds over taller opponents, and scores with either hand yet she’s handling the ball more and doing a good job, especially under pressure as well as dropping the midrange consistently yet watching her dive for loose balls has become the norm earning another hashtag #THROWBACK
Asia Waddell Asia Waddell 5'11" | CG Grand Oaks | 2024 State TX (Grand Oaks)
Waddell does so many things that don’t necessarily show up on a scoresheet yet she understands something valuable and that’s “how to get hers in the flow” yet she also does something else many don’t talk about in this era of “points” and that’s her defense as she’s usually on the opponent’s top scorer, evidently no matter what their position might be yet on the flip the pull and off the dribble were nice
Ma’Riya Vincent Ma’Riya Vincent 6'0" | SF Cy Springs | 2024 State TX (Klein Cain)
Vincent just keeps impressing me, even in the countless pictures I took but that jumper is making her a “nightmare to defend” simply because she scores off the dribble so well, attacking from everywhere, with either hand and finishing, with either hand yet she’s strong, especially on the boards and she scores off of, you guessed it, putbacks yet she plays the passing lane very well and that leads to…
Melinda Winston Melinda Winston 6'0" | PF Alief Hastings | 2024 State TX (Hastings)
Winston is so focused and poised that she is becoming one of the top clutch players in her class. She wants the ball down the stretch, she’s handling the ball under pressure very well, and watching her create her shot and knocking it down is nice, very nice. She also applies heat on the defensive end, rebounds strongly on both ends, and scores in the paint
Zachara Perkins Zachara Perkins 6'3" | SF Summer Creek | 2024 State TX (St. Pius)
Perkins told me a lot about what was coming as she was breaking a game down to me and she actually was doing better than me so right now, she’s also doing something better than me and that’s scoring off the dribble and dropping the long ball yet she’s showing she can play each position, well, and since she’s long and athletic, she ain’t done
Shunteria Anumele Shunteria Anumele 5'8" | SG Legacy Sports School of Science | 2024 State TX (St Pius)
Anumele is one of the most explosive guards off the dribble in her class and her finishes are both powerful and acrobatic but she’s added something that will give headaches to defenders and that’s consistency from outside. The midrange has become somewhat of a lost art in this new era yet she’s painting a picture that you better stay with her yet not close or she’s gone
La’Niah Thornton La’Niah Thornton 5'9" | PF Pearland | 2024 State TX (Pearland)
Thornton is just becoming a legitimate thorn in the sides of defenders as she’s so smooth off the dribble yet finishes strongly with either hand but that short jumper, her defense and let me add her “on the ball” defense are all coming together and with her upside, well be ready because she definitely keeps elevating her game
