Week One of the 9Dime Girls Fall League tipped off this past weekend in Fayetteville with a number of the states top prospects in attendance. Several players made their mark on opening day and there were some major standouts from the first slate of games. Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look at four prospects who made a great early statement during the first night of action.
[player_tooltip player_id="261084" first="Sarah" last="Strong"] (Grace Christian-Sanford 2024 forward)
[player_tooltip player_id="261084" first="Sarah" last="Strong"] showed off her excellent ball handling and finishing around the basket in their opening contest. She was all over the offensive glass creating second chance looks for her team. Strong also did well to protect the rim and make her opponents shoot more difficult shots. In the end, it was more of the usual high level play from North Carolina’s top prospect in 2024.
[player_tooltip player_id="201996" first="Natalie" last="Evington"] (Purnell Swett 2023 guard)
Throughout their opening game, it seemed like 2023 guard [player_tooltip player_id="201996" first="Natalie" last="Evington"] couldn’t miss from three point range. The junior guard was efficient from distance and made a lot of tough shots in the paint as well. She’s also capable of defending multiple positions and should have continued success in this league and during her junior season. Evington is part of a talented guard tandem at Purnell Swett alongside fellow 2023 prospect [player_tooltip player_id="275244" first="Kylie" last="Chavis"].
Jayda Angel (Cape Fear 2024 guard)
When it comes to taking and making tough shots, 2024 guard Jayda Angel continuously made them look easy. The Cape Fear sophomore made several three pointers, got into the lane and finished in traffic and defended extremely well. Angel is another guard who played well for the Carolina Flames during the spring and summer months playing higher than her age group.
[player_tooltip player_id="217743" first="Taliya" last="Council"] (St. Pauls 2022 guard/forward)
Whenever her team needed a big play on either end, NC A&T commit [player_tooltip player_id="217743" first="Taliya" last="Council"] was there to make it happen. She played mostly as a lead guard in their opening game, running the offense and making plays for her teammates. At St. Pauls, she’s one of the go to scorers for a team with state championship aspirations in the 2A classification this season.
