Dozens of players from several states and classes, extending to 2028s, descended on Wichita Sunday afternoon for the I-35 Showcase held at the Wichita Sports Forum. In this multi-part series of articles I offer my sometimes brief crib notes on nearly three dozen Kansas ballers I was able to make notes on.
Alana Webb, 5’4", Wichita Southeast, 2025 - Strong handles and speed with the ball enabled her to exploit open court chances.
[player_tooltip player_id="48269" first="Talayah" last="Thomas"], 5’7", Topeka, 2022 - Thomas attacked well, showing the ability to split defenders to finish. Showed a quick release off the catch on perimeter shots including from beyond the arc.
[player_tooltip player_id="127279" first="MyKayla" last="Cunningham"], 5’9", Salina Central, 2023 - Cunningham showed the ability to play and defend at the point as well as at the 2 and 3 positions. Showed serious elevation on rebounds.
[player_tooltip player_id="156314" first="Riley" last="Bruggeman"], 5’9", St. James Academy, 2023 - Good physical size. Able to catch and finish on the move as well as off the dime drop.
[player_tooltip player_id="93976" first="Kyla" last="Frenchers"], 5’7", Maize South, 2022 - Most assertive point guard at the event on both ends of the floor and it was not even close High IQ, fast, athletic, physical on the finish and makes the quick, soft pass..
Madison Smith, 5’7", Derby, 2024 - Liked her solid build and speed. Showed an ability to take most defenders off the bounce.
Aja Spencer, 5’8", Remington, 2024 - Among the perimeter shooters who can hit the three with range.
