Continue ReadingThis is the fourth and final installment of a multi-part series of articles offering brief crib notes on the nearly three dozen Kansas players I was able to make notes on at the I-35 Showcase held at the Wichita Sports Forum. Part 1 was composed of seven players, part 2 of nine, and part 3 with 8.
Trista Hoobler Trista Hoobler 5'7" | SG Wamego | 2023 State KS , 5’7″, CG, Wamego, 2023 – A quick, slick pivot inside for a score showed several things. Quicks, smarts, creativity, and finishing ability inside. I will be lookin’ for more.
Brooke Walker Brooke Walker 5'8" | CG Andover | 2024 State KS , 5’8″, CG, Andover, 2024 – Hands down one of the top three performers of the event. Defensively, was physical; active; and quick to not give up anything easy by anybody she defended. Showed consistent ability to score at all three levels, finish with contact, move into space for quick shots off the catch.
Brittan Zeka, 5’10”, PF/SF, Wellington, 2025 – Zeka is an impact player on both ends. Aggressive defender and rebounder. Good frame to go with her abilities. High potential player.
Isis Sanders Isis Sanders 5'9" | SG Maize South | 2022 State KS , 5’9″, CG/SF, Maize South, 2022 – One of the most confident scorers on the floor was Sanders. Size and strength enough to rebound, handles to work on the perimeter, scoring ability at all three levels including with arch on the jumpers.
Kamryn Rietzke, 5’4″, SG, Thunder Ridge, 2024 – Rietzke showed herself to be a quick and quick triggered perimeter shooter off the bounce.
Amani Lipscomb Amani Lipscomb 5'2" | PG Houston | 2024 State TN , 5’2″, PG, Andover, 2024 – Amani and I know (yeah we talk at every event!) she is not a good perimeter shooter … yet. But, shot selection is a huge part of developing into a shooter and Lipscomb makes good decisions. Her energy seemed to be on the ebb side this event and yet she defended other small, quick guards well; created for teammates in transition and off the bounce; and pushed but did not force action. A very solid event.
Alexis Hecht, 5’5″, SG, Wamego, 2026 – Hecht was one of the premier shooters of the event. And from range as well. She made her presence felt on both ends of the floor with her hustle, speed, competitiveness, and decision making. A very mature game.
Emari Doby Emari Doby 5'9" | SG Shawnee Heights | 2023 State KS , 5’9″, CG/SF, Shawnee Heights, 2023 – The best answer I received all day from a question came from a couple event coaches and observers when I asked how Doby was doing. Almost exasperated came “scoring at will.” Good size, strength, speed, and handles made her a very difficult match-up. On both ends of the floor she can play 4 positions. Also one of my top three performers of the event.
