The Western Dakota Athletic conference is one of North Dakotas oldest athletic conferences. Along with its age comes serious talent. The WDA alone last year produced a plethora of female student athletes ranging from NJCAA D1 level to NCAA D2. Lets dive deeper into this conference and discover some athletes that return this winter who can flat out score the ball.
[player_tooltip player_id="100419" first="Logan" last="Nissley"] - Bismarck Century - (5’10/SG/2023) - The reigning player of the year for North Dakota just knows one thing... and that’s BUCKETS! She’s quick, versatile, knowledgeful and can hurt a team in so many ways from cutting through defenses creating shots. Nissley averaged 21 points this past season, but could go for far more if she desired. She’s a must watch for this years season.
[player_tooltip player_id="211412" first="Amaya" last="Gourneau"] - Turtle Mountain - (5’8/SG/2023) - Amaya is a player who can score off the dribble, shoot from long, and even play a little down low. She’s a multi useful scorer that can use either hand around the rim when finishing. This year she dropped 22 on a tough Century team. She’s often the primary play maker and scoring option for her team. It’ll be interesting with little restrictions on how much she can put up on the hard wood this year.
[player_tooltip player_id="195409" first="Shelby" last="Meyer"] - Williston - (5’7/CG/2022) - It was a tough year for Williston, but there’s a spark of hope with returning senior [player_tooltip player_id="195409" first="Shelby" last="Meyer"]. Shelby is truly at her best when attacking the rim to draw fouls. She has a great looking mid-range jump shot and quick first step. With a little more polishing to her shot selection and 3 point shot, she could really light up the score board this winter.
[player_tooltip player_id="219714" first="Avery" last="Lunde"] - Minot - (5’9/SG/2024) - The Majettes have a bright future behind returning sophomore guard Lunde. Avery dropped a career high of 34 points against Turtle Mountain breaking Minot's single-game scoring record. She’s the type of player that can hurt you from anywhere on the court. As a Freshman she was able to grow a lot. With her skill set already there’s no telling how talented she becomes in the future.
[player_tooltip player_id="238455" first="Anthonett" last="Nabwe"] - Jamestown - (5’9/SF/2022) - An all-region selection and proficient scorer at a whopping 56% from the floor Nabwe knows the game of basketball. Most of the time when we hear an athlete can score the ball it’s mostly at a low 37-42% rate. Not Nabwe though. She’s very choice about how she wants to dissect a teams defense and pounces on the highest percentage shot. She rarely shoos 3’s and mostly drives and finishes or stop and pops. Look for her numbers to go up more this year as she enters her senior season.
