(Shameless self-plug!) That was the first and last time, but boy did it feel good to see my name in print. This next list of players is the first installment of prospects who will certainly be making headlines well before their senior year and we’re just helping them get it started. Without further ado, here’s part 1 of 2 in my 2025 fresh faces from the Top 250 Expo.
.
Sarah Hyde – 5’8 guard, Wayzata
Hyde is a fundamentally sound guard who can do it all. She’s got great handles and above average court vision to go along with it. She’s a very good mid-range shooter who thrives in catch-and-shoot situations. Sarah is a very vocal player on the court and uses her quick feet on the defensive end to make things very difficult for the offense. Basketball is in her DNA as her mom was a D1 hooper and a coach at Concordia-St. Paul. She’s in a very strong program at Wayzata so sky’s the limit for this one.
Maddie Backer Maddie Backer 5'7" | CG New Ulm | 2025 State MN – 5’4 guard, New Ulm
Backer is a bit on the smaller side, but Minnesota has produced a slew of 5’5 and under guards who have gone on to do great things. While scoring isn’t where Backer excels, creating opportunities for teammates is. She is an adequate ball handler and sees the floor as well as anyone in the class. She’s always looking to advance the ball with the pass. Defensively she moves well laterally staying in front of her matchup.
Amina Allen – 5’6 guard, Minnehaha Academy
Allen is an intriguing prospect. When she first got on my radar two years ago she was playing in more of a power forward position with her AAU team. In the years since she’s started to expand her game more on the perimeter which will certainly make her more of a threat. Amina is handling the ball more and looking for her shot more than she has in the past. She has a very mature demeanor on the court and being with Coach Matt Pryor in the Minnehaha program will only elevate her play and knowledge of the game.
Anna Greene Anna Greene 6'0" | SF Mahtomedi | 2025 State MN – 6’0 forward, Mahtomedi
Greene has tremendous upside as she’s a lean 6’0 with a long wingspan. She’s active around the offensive glass and uses her long arms to snatch rebounds for easy put-backs. She’s an active defender and moves well, and has a bit of physicality to her game. She’s no doubt working on her ball handling and being a consistent outside shooter which will make Greene a very exciting prospect in the years to come.
Kendra Overskei Kendra Overskei 6'0" | SF Maple Grove | 2025 State MN – 5’10 guard, Maple Grove
The last name may ring a bell as her sister is set to lace them up for UW-Eau Claire next fall, but Kendra is set on doing more than just following in her big sister’s footsteps, she’s looking to make a name for herself on her own merits. Overskei is one of the best shooters I’ve seen in the 2025 class. She’s got great length and a very quick release. Maple Grove is chock full of talent this upcoming season, but I’m sure Kendra will work as hard as anyone to earn her keep.
