The Western Wildcats are now 4-1 after defeating Cardinal Gibbons, 57-48. Western bounced back after suffering a three-point defeat to Mater Lakes Academy on Saturday. It was Cardinal Gibbons’ first loss of the season after starting 3-1.
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="153108" first="Taja" last="Stephens"] led the way with 20 points. The 5-foot-8 guard/forward was recently named preseason first-team All-County by the Sun Sentinel. Per information, Stephens is the first Lady Wildcat to earn that honor. She can score from all three levels and use her length to create steals. Moreover, Stephens is an excellent rebounder. Recently, she dropped a career-high 42 points and tallied ten steals against Taravella. I’m pretty sure I had Stephens as a contender to drop 40 points, and she did it in game one of the season. She averaged 18 points and eight rebounds per game as a junior.
2025 [player_tooltip player_id="248693" first="Riley" last="Stoker"] finished with ten points. The 5-foot-11 point guard is a good rebounder and shot blocker from the perimeter. In addition, Stoker should be a weapon from the outside all season. She should create a lot of problems with her length. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="244209" first="Jordan" last="Pravato"] added seven points.
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="248419" first="Chloe" last="Celler"] led the Chiefs with 12 points. The 5-foot-9 guard/forward is a solid spot-up shooter from anywhere on the floor. Cellar is also a good passer with a solid IQ when reading the floor. At last check, she was committed to Brandeis University.
2023 Konstantina Mantziori added 11 points and is a good playmaker. I like her ability to read the floor and make decisions in motion. The 5-foot-6 prospect can play multiple positions in the backcourt. Although, I do like Mantziori as a true point guard. Of note, she is a newcomer to the county. Look for Mantziori to continue to get better as the season moves along. 2023 captain Taylor Williams finished with ten points.
