One of the toughest statistical feats to reach in basketball over the course of a season is the 50-40-90 mark; that’s going a whole season shooting 50 percent from the floor, 40 percent from deep, and perhaps the toughest task of them all, connecting on 90 percent of your free throw attempts.
In order to be eligible for the feat, one must have made at least 45 shots from the floor, have at least 8 three-pointers made, and have 20 made free throws.
Last year there were no members of the 50-40-90 club. The closest player was [player_tooltip player_id="13959" first="Arianna" last="Jackson"] who was over 50 percent from the floor and over 40 percent from deep, but fell just short on the free throw percentage as she was 33-of-38 from the stripe.
With the new season underway, let’s take a look at five players who have a shot at this feat this season. There will dozens of players that hit the marks for field goal percentage but most will fall short on the free throw percentage.

[player_tooltip player_id="128996" first="Ava" last="Hawthorne"] – Gilbert – Last year: 51% FG, 41% 3FG, 84% FT
Last season Hawthorne was close to becoming a 50-40-90 member but her free throw percentage was not quite there. She will be taking a bigger role on her team this year and will be able to see if she can push her free throw percentage up over 90 percent. That is the toughest task but Hawthorne has the ability to do it.
[player_tooltip player_id="13959" first="Arianna" last="Jackson"] – Roosevelt – Last year: 62% FG, 64% 3FG, 86% FT
Jackson easily hit the field goal percentages but fell just short on the free throw aspect. This year I think she has the best shot of anyone to hit the marks because she only takes really good shots. It will come down to her hitting her free throws consistently but looking at her percentages from last year, there is no reason to think that she cannot do it.
[player_tooltip player_id="129017" first="Anna" last="Gossling"] – Johnston – Last year: 42% FG, 37% 3FG, 87% FT
Gossling will be an interesting case in this study because her field goal percentages will mirror each other. Gossling is a 3-point shooter so her percentages will fluctuate with how well she shoots it from deep. I expect her to be able to find more open shots this year as well allowing her to bump up the field goal percentages from last year. Look for Gossling to come close to hitting it this year.
[player_tooltip player_id="63624" first="Madison" last="Camden"] – Glenwood – Last year: 48% FG, 40% 3FG, 81% FT
Camden will be relied on heavily this year for Glenwood as they have a state title within their sight. Camden is a poised scorer who has the ability to go off for 20+ points any night. Look for Camden to get to the rim more this season and make more shots. A byproduct of getting to the rim a lot is being fouled more often so look for her to get more opportunities at the line.
[player_tooltip player_id="127617" first="Emma" last="Miner"] – Dallas Center-Grimes – Last year: 50% FG, 49% 3FG, 71% FT
Miner should be able to get the shooting percentages wrapped up fairly easily. The spot for her that will give her a problem is her free throw shooting percentage. She should be able to bump that percentage up this year simply because she is such a capable shooter. Look for Miner to give the 50-40-90 club a run this season.
