We covered the guards and wings that stood out during the fall league, now let’s take a look at the post players. There aren’t many true post players here in Northeast Florida but here are four of the best. They all bring something different to the floor in terms of style of play.
Nia Brown Nia Brown 5'11" | PF Orange Park | 2022 State FL – Orange Park | ’22
Nia is known as an elite defender. She can defend multiple positions and is great in help-side blocking shots at will. She has been showing off more of her offensive skills this fall. She has developed a consistent jumper and extended her range out to the 3-point line. Nia can also push the ball up the floor after grabbing a defensive rebound which makes it easier for teammate Eris Lester Eris Lester 5'10" | SF Montverde Academy | 2024 State FL , and the other guards, to get out in transition. She will be a nightmare for the opposing team to guard. If you put a post on her, she will step outside for a jump shot or take them off the dribble. If you put someone smaller on her, she will take them down to the block and post them up. Chipola College is getting a good one.
Dyllan Hanna – Bartram Trail | ’22
Dyllan is a handful around the rim on offense and defense. She defends the basket well and gets easy putbacks on offense. She also goes after every rebound and loose ball. There aren’t many players that will out-hustle Dyllan on a given night. She has already committed to play for Florida Atlantic University in college so all is left is for her to have a monster senior season. She will have to look to score more as much of Bartram Trail’s scoring was done by departing seniors Angel Roman and Moira McCarthy but already looks up to the challenge.
Jada Jones Jada Jones 6'4" | PF Sandalwood | 2023 State FL – Sandalwood | ’23
Jada has a college-ready body and might be the most difficult player to guard on the low post in the area. She commands a double team on almost every play as most teams don’t have a true post player that can guard her one-on-one. Once she has the defense pinned under the basket, there isn’t much anyone can do. Jada has also started to take outside shots, and if she hits them on a consistent basis, she will be virtually unguardable. If she gets consistent play from her teammates around her, look for her numbers to go up across the board.
Irene Kabassubabo – Jackson | ’22
Irene picked up where she left off last season, grabbing every rebound in sight. She is one of the best offensive rebounders in the area. Irene is a walking and-1 waiting to happen and you don’t have to run a play for her to be able to score and impact the game. She gets to the foul line often and usually converts. She also allows her teammates to be more aggressive and put pressure on the ball because they know she will be there in help side to defend the paint.
