Coverage of the 6th Region is incomplete without an article discussing the Butler so I finally get it done. Head Coach Lakesha Perry has a deep team with great size and a few of the best players in the state to help lead the Bearettes into competition for the season.

Meanwhile, Head Coach James J Corbett is facing an uphill climb at Fern Creek in one of the most talent-laden Districts in the 6th Region. The 24th District is loaded and the Lady Tigers are not but they are improving.

[player_tooltip player_id="167139" first="Ramiya" last="White"] - ’24 6’5"/C - Butler

White is a sure-fires Division 1 Center with offers from Louisville, Kentucky, Maryland Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, West Virginia, and Xavier.

She has great size and in the Post, she keeps the ball high and finishes through contact. But what was most impressive was her free-throw line jumper. She must have hit 75% or higher on multiple attempts. It seems like a free-throw line jumper is a layup to her.

This is so effective and important for players of her height and size for two reasons. First off it is a shot she should be able to take at any time during a game against any kind of defense. But more importantly, it is a "zone buster" shot. If a team should decide to pack into a Zone to try to limit the effectiveness of her size on the inside they will be playing right into her best skill.

[player_tooltip player_id="329440" first="Kylie" last="Floyd"] - ’23 5’11"/SF - Butler

Floyd is a fundamentally sound Lefty and a defensive stopper. She is a good handler, keeps the ball high, and finishes through contact. Unfortunately, she turned her ankle early in practice and I was not able to see more of what she can do. But being at Butler means being in the spotlight. So I will see her play again.

[player_tooltip player_id="106163" first="Tamesha" last="Dozier"] - ’22 6’3"/PF - Butler

Dozier is back for her Senior season but was unfortunately unable to practice on the day I was there. All I can report is that she did try to stay engaged with practice and her teammates while being limited to the sidelines.

She is being recruited by Alderson Broadus, Berea, Madonna, Spalding, and Wilberforce and intends to study Nursing or Interior Design somewhere next season.

Aries Harris- '22 5'5"/CG - Butler

Harris is built for speed, has a very quick release jump shot, and can shoot the three in transition.

She is likely to study Communications or Photography in College.

Makayla Alexander - ’25 5’8"/PF - Butler Focus Select

Alexander is a shot blocker, an aggressive rebounder, and has a soft touch as a finisher around the hoop. This is an up-and-coming player for the Bearettes.

Zuri King - '22 5'7"/CG - Fern Creek Kentucky Wolves

King is a transfer from Sacred Heart who boxes out shooters and plays through contact when not using a step-back dribble to find some open space to get off her shot. She is a three-level scorer with a good elbow jumper, wing three, and mid-range jump shot.

She intends to be a Biochemistry/Pre-Med Major and has seen some interest from Fitchburg State and California-Pomona

Serenity Cleaves - '24 5'7"/CG - Fern Creek Louisville Legends

Cleaves is very athletic and one of the fastest players on the team. She blocks shots, shoots the wing three, and makes lay-ups with either hand. She is also a good passer that finds open cutters in the offense.

She might study Music in College and already knows how to play Trombone and Bass Guitar.

Jada Adams - '24 5'8"/PF - Fern Creek

Adams is an important contributor for the Lady Tigers but not a very experienced basketball player. Coaches say she is improving greatly every day by having a good attitude and trying to do everything they ask of her.

She has deceptive speed, is a good shot blocker, and has a good, developing short jump shot.
