Who Are the Top Players in SouthWest Florida? By Michael Wholey 11/10/21 2:00 PM EST The high school season kicked off this week with pre-season classic games going on all week all over the state.  We take a look at the top players in SouthWest Florida in Charlotte, Lee, and Collier counties.   #1 [player_tooltip player_id="91562" first="Addison" last="Potts"] – Class of 2022 - South Fort Myers Potts is a Purdue University verbal commit that is now back at her home high school just down the street from her house.  She is a tall, skilled, scoring combo guard who looks to wrap up her prep school and help put South Fort Myers on the map.  She has a high basketball IQ, great court vision, deep range, excellent handle, and as a big guard can see over defenses and score over the top of defenders.  It will be fun to watch her with South Fort Myers this year and the talented crew that has all made the move with her to SFM.  How quickly the team gels together and how well they can share the ball and play together, will dictate their seasons success!   # 2 [player_tooltip player_id="91644" first="D’Yanis" last="Jimenez"] – Class of 2023 - Charlotte High School Jimenez is one of the most athletic and talented players to come out of SWFL in the last 20 years.  She is smooth with the ball in her hands and has a nature scoring ability with the ability to make things look easy.  Her motor and energy can sometimes hold her back.  When engaged, playing hard, and motivated – she has elite level ability and a big-time ceiling!   # 3 [player_tooltip player_id="151272" first="Aryana" last="Hicks"] – Class of 2022 - Charlotte High School Hicks is a small, quick, explosive guard that recently committed to Niagara University in New York.  The 5’5 guard can run the offense and set her teammates up for easy baskets as well as attack off the dribble and create her own shot.  She is a pesty defender that is a very good on ball defender. # 4 [player_tooltip player_id="91599" first="Reese" last="Tremitiere"] – Class of 2022 - Gulf Coast High School Tremitiere might be the top athlete in the county.  She is a high energy player who does all the intangibles and makes all the hustle plays.  She is a live body with excellent hops.  She runs the floor hard, consistently goes to the boards, and is very active on both ends of the floor.   # 5 [player_tooltip player_id="346883" first="Maddie" last="O’Berski"] – Class of 2025 - Evangelical Christian School O’Berski is a tremendous athlete, who is extremely talented and has a high motor.  She plays hard from jump ball to final buzzer and completely fearless.  She is consistently the first one to the floor for a loose ball, challenges every shot and has a knack for consistently being around the ball.  She has a great basketball IQ, is a fierce competitor, and just absolutely relentless!  At 5’7 she is a long, active, high-energy guard who has the chance to be the next big deal in SouthWest Florida.   # 6 [player_tooltip player_id="91646" first="Kiaraly" last="Cabrera"] – Class of 2023 – Community School of Napl Cabrera plays with confidence, and a smoothness and comfort level that is intriguing to watch.  She has a shifty handle and open court moves and is very dangerous with the ball in her hands.  She can take defenders off the dribble, let it fly from deep, and get into the paint and drop dimes for easy baskets for her teammates.     # 7 [player_tooltip player_id="91571" first="Katie" last="Ambrose"] – Class of 2022 - Gulf Coast High School Ambrose is the heart and soul of the Gulf Coast High School and a St. Francis (PA) verbal commit.  She is an authentic point guard who does a great job running her team, handing the ball, not turning it over, and selectively finding scoring opportunities.  She has a high motor and plays hard on both ends.  An average athlete, what she lacks in athleticism, she makes up in activity level.  She has a high basketball IQ, with excellent court vision and is an extension of the coach on the floor.   # 8 [player_tooltip player_id="91654" first="Tyra" last="Brown"] – Class of 2023 – Fort Myers High School Brown is a 6’1 wing that was Fort Myers High School 3rd leading scorer behind NC A&T Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="91481" first="Chaniya" last="Clark"] and Furman Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="91524" first="Janay" last="Outten"].  She averaged 10.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG as a Sophomore and will be expected to take over the leading role for the next two seasons along with teammate Jadah Toombs.  Her combination of length, athleticsm, and talent gives her a huge upside and major potential! # 9 Jadah Toombs – Class of 2024 – Fort Myers High School Toombs plays with a wiggle and moxy that is fun to watch! She was Fort Myers 4th leading scorer behind Clark, Outten, and Brown and will have an excellent opportunity to be the teams lead guard for the next three years.  She is tough, quick, aggressive, and talented!   # 10 [player_tooltip player_id="219947" first="China" last="Jenkins"] – Class of 2022 - Evangelical Christian School There is no other way to put it other than Jenkins is a freak of nature!!! She is long, lean and mean!  Her motor is elite, elite, elite – as she competes for every ball, every possession.  Her overall offensive skill is underdeveloped but she has added a mid-range game to her repertoire.  What she lacks in skill and talent, she makes up for in athleticism, energy and effort.  She consistently plays with a relentless energy, effort, and passion on every possession!   # 11 [player_tooltip player_id="346838" first="V’Davrielle" last="Johnson"] – Class of 2025 - South Fort Myers High School Without a doubt, there are some major athletes in Charlotte, Lee, and Collier counties. With the likes of Jimenez, Hicks, Tremitiere, O’Berski, Cabrera, Brown, Toombs, and Jenkins – Johnson might be # 1! Her athleticism is freakish and her upside is unlimited.  Right now, that is the intrigue with her as a prospect and it is up to her what she does with all of that untapped athletiscm but her one thing is for sure, she is loaded with potential!   # 12 Maddie Leslie – Class of 2023 - Gulf Coast High School Leslie is a big guard/wing that has a high basketball IQ and is one of the areas top shooters.  She is a high percentage shooter, who has deep range.  She is a major asset to the Gulf Coast High School team, allowing the Sharks to space the floor and open up penetration gaps for Ambrose and Tremitiere and makes teams pay if they help off her, consistently knocking down the corner 3 off penetrate and kick situations.   # 13 [player_tooltip player_id="91648" first="Haley" last="Lang"] – Class of 2023 - South Fort Myers High School Lang is a big guard / wing that can shoot the ball from deep.  Her length and height allow her to get the ball off over the top of defenses from all areas of the court both off the catch and off the bounce.  Her ability to put the ball to the floor and guard the ball will dictate her overall potential and could play a major role in how far South Fort Myers High School advances in the FHSAA playoffs this season. # 14 [player_tooltip player_id="346840" first="Kenyah" last="Moss"] – Class of 2025 – Gateway High School Moss is a young post player that is still new to the game and not quite ready for the intensity and physical play of high level basketball.  But she is a big post with excellent height and mass.  Look for her to adapt to the level of play throughout the season and develop into one of the top post players and ultimately one of the top players in the SWFL area over the next 4 years!   We will look to continue to cover all across the state of Florida.  Our audience supplies us with some of our best information.  Keep us updated on Florida news be emailing me at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com or DM’ing me through Twitter or Instagram @WholeyPrepHoops.
