Continue ReadingWith the Holiday break already here, I’ve gotten a better understanding of the players in the class of 2025. I want to continue to talk about more kids in the freshmen class. However, today I have four more freshmen to watch as their season and careers continue. To be clear, this is by no means a ranking of these players and only observations of their statistical seasons.
Madisonn Fitzgibbonn Madisonn Fitzgibbonn 5'6" | SG Homestead | 2025 WI -5’6 G-Homestead. Fitzgibbon has already made a name for herself as a premier scoring guard in Wisconsin. The Homestead freshman has scored 23 points per game in nine games this season. Fitzgibbon has scored with great efficiency this season. Fitzgibbon has all the signs of a player who could end up scoring 2,000 points as a Highlander. Her instincts are incredible, and she always seems to find open pockets of space to get a jumper off. Even though I saw her play probably one of her worst games against Kettle Moraine Lutheran, I still left liking what the freshman did. Fitzgibbon didn’t shoot that well that night, but she didn’t shy away from shooting the ball. Although the game was over, the freshman hit a 3-pointer with about a minute left to make the last 60 seconds academic.
Natalie Mueller Natalie Mueller 5'6" | SG Homestead | 2025 State WI -5’7 G-Homestead: The other Highlander I want to talk about is one of the best spot-up shooters I know of in Wisconsin. I have one memory of her from the Top 250 Expo, Mueller lined up a 30-foot 3-pointer where she didn’t even bother hitting the rim. The one issue that I do have with her jumper is it’s a touch slow, but it hasn’t caused her any problems this season. Right now, I see Mueller as an elite zone buster and lethal floor spacer in transition. Mueller’s presence on the floor it’s hard to justify playing a 2-3 zone for too long because the freshman will torch zones all game long.
Jenna Welsch-5’9 G-Catholic Memorial: Welsch has a ton of potential that she flashes for Catholic Memorial every game. Welsch’s offense mostly comes from attacking closeouts and is a slasher at this point. Her 3-point shooting has been a bit puzzling because she has a shooter’s touch. Welsch has shot 82% from the free-throw line, showing that she can shoot the basketball, so I assume her overall shooting will get better. Another thing is the Crusader still can pop off the floor and rebound the ball at 5-foot-9. Her rebounding shows a high level of effort that not every player has, and I’m excited to see her improve over the next few seasons.
Makena Christian Makena Christian 6'0" | PF Hartford | 2025 State WI -5’11 G/F-Hartford: Christian has come into a situation at Hartford where she’s earned a responsibility to score in volume. The Oriole has had an interesting start to her time at Hartford. I believe her efficiency numbers are slightly down because she’s taking 16 shots per game at a level she probably hasn’t played at before. At this time, I think she’s learning a lot from Coach Daniels and personal experience on the floor. Defensively, Christian has excellent timing blocking shots and is very good at playing in the right spots to make plays. The freshman is averaging about two and a half steals per game already. The North Shore Conference, with Christian and the Homestead, is loaded with young talent.
