Several teams and dozens of talented prospects are scheduled to compete throughout the week, here are players that I feel deserved “All-Shootout” honors from Saturdays games:
2024 McKenzie Reitmayer McKenzie Reitmayer 6'2" | SF Highland Park | 2024 State IL , 6’2” Forward, Highland Park
A skilled stretch Forward who often takes care of the ball-handling duties for her team, Reitmayer is a very intriguing prospect with the skill set she possesses. She shoots the ball at a high mark from beyond the three-point line and scores well in the post with her solid footwork and touch around the basket. McKenzie uses her length in the lane to block or alter shots against opposing post players and rebounds the ball well at both ends of the floor, which was shown in her 14-point, 12-rebound double-double.
2022 Zosia Wrobel Zosia Wrobel 6'0" | SF Geneva | 2022 State IL , 6’0” Forward, Geneva
Wrobel helped Geneva jump out to an early lead against Hinsdale Central with dominant inside scoring and rebounding. She finished with 18 points and 9 rebounds while doing most of her work in the lane with her strength and savvy finishing skills at the basket. Zosia is an excellent slasher in the lane and regularly gets herself open so that her teammates can get her the ball in a good position to get easy points.
2023 Lauren Slagle Lauren Slagle 6'1" | SF Geneva | 2023 State IL , 6’1” Guard, Geneva
While Wrobel helped Geneva start the game with a ton of energy, Slagle made sure that didn’t fade away as the game went on, collecting 18 points of her own in the process. She is an athletic Guard/Forward who loves to attack off the bounce from the perimeter and use her length to finish around the rim. Lauren provides good versatility on the defensive end with her athleticism and can knock down shots from deep and the mid-range with a smooth jump shot.
2023 Abby Drendel Abby Drendel 5'9" | SG Naperville North | 2023 State IL , 5’10” Guard, Naperville North
A microwave scorer who heats up as fast as anyone, Drendel scored seven of her fifteen points right out of the gate to give her team an early edge against Marist. She is an outstanding shooter from beyond the three-point line with great confidence and a high basketball IQ. Abby is a strong Combo Guard who can play and defend any of the Guard positions with her ability to match an opponent’s physicality and willingness to not take any plays off.
2023 Elise Ward, 5’11” Guard, Marist
While Naperville North got out to an early first half lead over Marist, Ward did a tremendous job making things interesting in the fourth quarter. She tallied 21 points and 9 rebounds while knocking down multiple shots from the perimeter and outworking opponents for loose balls and second chance opportunities. Not many players around can match Elise’s energy late in the game, and she took advantage by bringing down big rebounds and converting at the hoop to keep the game close.
2024 Emory Klatt Emory Klatt 6'2" | SF Stevenson | 2024 State IL , 6’1” Forward, Stevenson
A dominant player in the lane who can stretch the floor with her shooting ability, Klatt is quickly becoming one of the top Forwards in the state, regardless of Class. She totaled 19 points and 8 rebounds without playing most of the fourth quarter and asserted her presence as soon as the ball was tipped. Emory has a great combination of strength and athleticism and uses her physicality to finish through contact at the basket and bring down rebounds at a high rate on both ends of the court.
2024 Gwen Adler Gwen Adler 5'10" | SG Barrington | 2024 IL , 5’11” Guard, Barrington
I’m not sure any player impressed me more on Saturday than Adler, who scored 13 points and brought down 6 rebounds. She is a versatile off-ball Guard who excels at attacking the basket off the dribble and finding holes in the defense to score or make a play to her teammates. Gwen brings a ton of energy any time she’s on the court and consistently plays tough on-ball defense against opposing ball-handlers.
2023 Sophie Swanson Sophie Swanson 5'10" | SG Barrington | 2023 State IL , 5’11” Guard, Barrington
One of the top scorers in the state this season, Swanson was kept in check for a good portion of this game, but really came through for her team when they needed her most. She finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds in a thrilling come from behind victory over Montini, converting tough layups through contact and knocking down timely free throws. Sophie scores the ball exceptionally well from anywhere on the court and plays as tough and as physical as anyone around.
