I traveled south to Hardin County. and east into Oldham County to see teams from Bullitt and Nelson County play and found these gems plus the rest of the talent you have been reading about all week. Enjoy.
Mallory Reed – ’22 5’10″/PF – Central Hardin
Reed is often the third option in the offense and scored 15 points while displaying an outside shot she has breast confidence in. She has a high release while she made only 1 of her 4 threes on the night she also made an 18 footer from each corner. For the season she is averaging 12 points per game and shooting 34.7% from three-point range.
She also contributes closer to the basket scoring off a rebound with a 4-foot jumper in the paint, running the floor and being rewarded with a layup, making a short corer jump shot, and getting open for an inside bucket off of a short lob pass.
She is averaging what may seem like a low 2.6 rebounds per game until you see her team play. With two very talented Guards driving into the paint so often she has to spread out to accommodate for that skill and to accentuate her shooting punch. And there are two great rebounders on her team that leave very few balls available for her to grab. I think she would be a better rebounder on a different team but that is speculation.
Kayley Batts – ’22 5’6″/CG – Oldham County
Batts scored 25 or her team’s 58 points to keep it close in a losing effort making 3 of 8 three-pointers, 10 of 11 free throws, and grabbing 4 rebounds. She has been crucial for the team this season averaging 17 points and almost 7 rebounds per game. As a shooter, she is making 36% of her threes and 79% from the foul line.
In the game, she made a wing three with a hand in her face, a left corner three, an 18 footer from the corner, and a 19 footer from the wing with her toes on the line. She did a fine job handling the ball and scored on a left wing drive for a layup.
Kylie Downey – ’26 5’7″/PG – North Bullitt
It was Kylie Downey’s welcome to High School Basketball party on this night. The 8th grader scored 21 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, made 3 of her 4 free throws, and shot 4 of 8 from three-point range. She also did a good job handling the ball and getting the offense started.
She shot the ball from DEEP. She made a top three and a top-left three from 4 feet behind the arc and left wing three from 3 feet past the three-point line. She also made a regular three from the top, a left-handed curl cut across the label for a layin, a left side of the lane drive for a layup, and scored a layup on a breakaway pass.
Emily Thorpe – ’23 5’3″/SG – North Bullitt
Thorpe is averaging a steady 7 points per game, shooting 86% from the free-throw line and making 34.7% of her three-point shot during her last seven games. She scored 8 points, making two corner threes and both free throws.
Ashlyn MIles – ’23 5’8″/SF – Bethlehem
Miles is averaging 6.4 points per game and shooting 42.8% from the three-point range. She scored 9 points and made 3 assists in a close win while playing good defense, making a corner three and both of her free throws.
