As most programs are at the halfway point of their season I attended two pre-Christmas events and would love for you all to hear about some guards that stood out.
First up is 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="373854" first="Jakayla" last="Nickles"] | G 5-7 | Baker High School in Mobile. Jakayla is very athletic and can shoot the trey-ball with ease. She was the engine for this team by running the point, distributing the ball, playing defense, and scoring at ease, she averaged 4 threes per game during the Spain Park Lady Jags Christmas Classic. [player_tooltip player_id="373854" first="Jakayla" last="Nickles"] is a name you need to remember.
2023 [player_tooltip player_id="373861" first="Kiya" last="Crayton"] | CG 5-6 | Shades Valley High School Kiya is a junior that brings 3 years of varsity experience to this Shades Valley team. She sees the floor very well, with her three-point shooting opening up the floor for her teammates. During the Spain Park Lady Jags Christmas Classic, Kiya averaged double figures in their three games.
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="320523" first="Jasmine" last="Lenyard"] | CG 5-10| Midfield High School. Jasmine is a new member of the Midfield Lady Patriots, spending her previous years with Brooklane Academy. She stands right at 6-0, can run the point, play on the top of the press, and score. Jas as she is affectionately called, can score by all means necessary. You do not want to leave her open on the perimeter or short corner; she will make you pay.
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="320497" first="Zahria" last="Hoskey"] | G 5-7 | Eufaula High School. Zahria plays with a lot of heart and it shows on the floor with her will to win. She loves to drive to the basket, expecting to get some contact and finishing with a made basket. Zahria is a pleasure to watch play and I am looking forward to seeing her play again.
The stand-out guard of the Spain Park Lady Jags Christmas Classic has to be 2026 [player_tooltip player_id="371478" first="Ally" last="Sharpe"]| PG 5-3 | Cullman High School. Just for clarity, this is an 8th grader, that plays years beyond her age. Ally is a coach on the floor, can read defenses, and has a great jumper. She is the daughter of a head coach and has grown up in a gym. Ally averaged double figures, and standing at just 5-3, she is a little fireplug on the floor. Remember this name.
