In their last meeting on December 7th, Edwardsville came away with a two point victory with a score of 47-45. Here were some of the standouts from this matchup:
Sydney Harris Sydney Harris 6'0" | SG Edwardsville | 2022 State IL – Edwardsville – 2022
Sydney has good size with a strong frame. She’s a strong rebounder, always able to find her way to the rim. The most impressive thing about Sydney is her ability to create space from her defenders and find her own shot. Sydney was Edwardsville’s leading scorer with 14, making her the schools single season scoring leader. She is now only 45 points away from becoming Edwardsville’s all time leading scorer.
Elle Evans Elle Evans 6'2" | SF Edwardsville | 2022 State IL – Edwardsville – 2022
The North Dakota State University commit has tremendous size and length for a guard. Though she had an off scoring night, she did everything right that you would expect a great basketball player to do. She didn’t shoot the ball a lot, but she found other ways to find her open teammates with her great court vision and passing ability.
Emma Garner – Edwardsville – 2022
Emma was under the radar coming into the big time game. The tigers can thank her for finding ways to score all night. She began the night with a pretty stroke from the corner early. 9 of her career high 12 points came in the second half under the the basket to close out the Panthers.
Macy Silvey Macy Silvey 5'9" | CG Edwardsville | 2022 State IL – Edwardsville – 2022
The SIU-Edwardsville commit has great rotation on the ball with some deep range. She moves well without the ball and finds ways to score. Macy’s 13 points helped Edwardsville improve to 19-5 on the season.
Shannon Dowell Shannon Dowell 5'9" | SG O'Fallon HS | 2023 State IL – O’Fallon – 2023
Shannon has great size and length giving her the ability to score the ball from anywhere on the floor. She is the teams leading scorer and rebounder strongly due to her athleticism. Shannon has very active hands on defense, with the ability to protect the rim. Scoring a game high 19 wasn’t quite enough as the panthers dropped to 18-5.
Jailah Pelly Jailah Pelly 5'9" | SG O'Fallon | 2023 State IL – O’Fallon – 2023
The crafty guard uses her great ball handing skills to find her way to the rim to create her own shots. Jailah leads the team in assist, thanks to her great court vision and passing abilities. She also leads the team in steals due to her scrappiness and active hands on defense. The guard has the ability to step out and hit the deep shot, helping her contribute 12 points on the evening.
The conference rematch lived up to the hype. Edwardsville led this closely contested matchup most of the way before pulling away late in the fourth to come away with the 50-39 road victory. This was the last meeting of these teams of the season. The Panthers will have to wait until the postseason in hopes of getting another shot of revenge at the Tigers. Edwardsville improves to 19-5, and look to extend their 9 game winning streak with Vashon (MO) as their next challenge. O’Fallon drops to 18-5, but look to bounce back against a tough Alton team in their next matchup.
