Last evening I made the trip to Haven to watch the Wildcats take on the Sedgwick Cardinals. And while the Sedgwick program only consists of 10 players, Coach Aaron Stucky had them well prepared. The Cardinals consistently carved up the Wildcat press to create two-on-one opportunities. The Wildcats were able to make many plays jumping passing lanes for several transition baskets. A combination of those and some timely perimeter shots broke the game open in the second quarter. Each push to make a run was beaten back and the Wildcats held court with a 51-35 win. Below are some notes on impact players from both teams.

Kinley Jacques, 5’7", SG, 2023 - Jacques has a very quick release perimeter shot and is a solid three point threat. Her six points were both beyond the arc bombs. She has solid north-south speed and moves into space well to look for her shot.
Sienna DeFrain, 5’8", SF, 2025 - DeFrain led all scorers with 17 points including 5/6 from the line. She was very active around the basket on both ends of the floor and excelled at jumping passing lanes with the correct hand. Created easy baskets for herself taking steals the length of the floor. DeFrain has good length and solid speed with the ball.

Tallying all seven of her points in the key second quarter contributed to the game getting broken open.

Knocking down a pair of three balls showed her range. Finished at speed on the receiving end of dishes. Turned a couple jumped passing lanes into layups for herself for her or a teammate.

Sedgwick

Addie Finch, 5’8", SF, 2023 - Attacks the basket equally well to her right and left. Interior change of pace dribble from right block to the left to create a shot and draw a foul. Not just the only player who boxed out for either team but boxed out well on both ends of the floor. Physical rebounder. Tenacious. Need to see more of her mid-range shooting game. Finished with three points on 3/6 from the line but could make plays to draw the foul. Finch also defended the much taller Estill well from behind, able to slide to where Estill wanted to go with the ball off the catch.

Photo: Robert Kelly.[/caption][player_tooltip player_id="158618" first="Alexa" last="Scarlett"], 5’9", PG/SG, 2022 - Scarlett led the Cardinals with 11 points, knocking a trifecta of threes. Despite a tendency to telegraph interior passes Scarlett has a steady game. She has a quick accurate release on her perimeter shot, leads the break and passes well in transition, and was resilient when the Wildcats made runs of their own.

Logan Stucky, 5’3", PG, 2024 - Finishing with nine points, Stuckey showed good speed with the ball - enough to beat to beat a couple Wildcat defenders down the floor - and a nice crossover dribble. She made use of the her crossover to shake loose in the half court to create off the bounce. Stuckey also showed off her perimeter range with a made three.
