Commitments by 2022s to play basketball or another sport trickle in as the weeks go by. The majority of the top 10 point guards have announced decisions or are close to it. Not to much further down the list there are quite a number of quality players still available. Here’s a look at some of them in rank order. [player_tooltip player_id="48304" first="Gracie" last="Gilpin"], 5’6", Emporia - Gilpin followed up honorable mention honors by earning first team Centennial League a season ago. She shoots quickly off the catch and sets her feet well from three point range. Gilpin also has good quickness and control with the ball. She makes good decisions, brings toughness to the floor, and is solid defensively. [caption id="attachment_247607" align="alignleft" width="140"] Southeast of Saline 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="124981" first="Karsyn" last="Schlesener"]. Photo: Robert Kelly.[/caption][player_tooltip player_id="124981" first="Karsyn" last="Schlesener"], 5’6", Southeast of Saline - The two-time North Central Activities Association first team selection is a dangerous shooter who can get her shot off quickly. She is fast with strong handles, has quick hands and feet, and uses her high IQ to work hard off the ball. Schlesener boxes out, rebounds, and hits her free throws. Athleticism enables her to split double teams and score in a variety of ways, including from the three point line. As strong of an interior passer as she is a scorer she tallies numerous assists. [player_tooltip player_id="124985" first="Kristin" last="Biltoft"], 5’7", Jefferson West - Through 7 games averaging 13.1 ppg, 5.3 rebounds, 4.1 steals, 3.3 assists, and 1.1 assists to turnovers ratio. Biltoft earned 2021 Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA) 3A honorable mention and is also a two-time Big Seven first team selection. She can hit the pull-up three and spots up well, but where she can dominate is in attacking gaps - especially against zones - and finishing athletically. [player_tooltip player_id="124992" first="AmUnique" last="Cavitt"], 5’7", Wichita North - Cavitt had a terrific summer where she improved her overall physicality and sharpened her overall game. The Greater Wichita League second teamer has strong handles with speed and leads the break with her head up. She has solid strength to pass the ball ahead cross-court to a finisher. She is an athletic finisher who is also a solid perimeter shooter. She understands the inside game and can post well when needed. Her mid-range face-up game is especially good. As much attention Cavitt drew attracted I am honestly surprised she is still unsigned. [caption id="attachment_245761" align="alignright" width="149"] Campus 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="158614" first="Tya" last="Tindall"]. Photo: Robert Kelly.[/caption][player_tooltip player_id="158614" first="Tya" last="Tindall"], 5’5", Campus - Tindall is among the most aggressive players around attacking the basket. She can distribute off the bounce as well though and can hit the deep three. Has a tendency to try to do to much but Tindall, with her speed and handles, is a high potential game with all the tools to get there. [player_tooltip player_id="124988" first="Landrea" last="Sears"], 5’6", Sedan - Sears is putting up good numbers for the 4-3 Devils, averaging 15.5 points. Her six-game stats show her putting up 15.5 points, 6.5 steals, 2.7 assists as well as 5 rebounds. The 2021 South Central Border League first team selection (second team in 2020) jumps passing lanes well, gets down the floor quickly with the ball to finish, and has three point range. Sears’ upside will continue to grow as she gets stronger. [player_tooltip player_id="94008" first="Catherine" last="Toerber"], 5’6", Valley Heights - A point with strong half-court command has good handles with the ability to get the ball up the floor off with the pass. Toerber has good length and hand speed and has showed solid rebounding on the defensive end. At times she can be found playing inside. 2020 KBCA 2A honorable mention. Twin Valley League second team. [caption id="attachment_266303" align="alignleft" width="150"] Hesston 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="260019" first="Caryn" last="Yoder"]. Photo: Robert Kelly.[/caption][player_tooltip player_id="260019" first="Caryn" last="Yoder"], 5’4", Hesston - Yoder had a terrific 2021 season, earning KBCA 2A honorable mention and Central Kansas League first team honors. Playing in an April MAYB tournament her skills continued to show themselves. He has solid handles and transition speed to lead transition offense. She also created well in the half court and shot a very soft perimeter shot. [player_tooltip player_id="158580" first="Shelby" last="Siebold"], 5’5", Clay Center - Siebold has been in the middle of Clay Center’s run of state tournament appearances and high win number seasons. A season ago she earned North Central Kansas League first team selection after concluding 2020 with an honorable mention selection. Siebold has good handles, speed in transition, and consistent three point range. She shoots it quickly off the catch. Siebold is also quick and aggressive defensively. [player_tooltip player_id="125013" first="Traci" last="Cramer"], 5’7", Dighton - Through 10 games Cramer is putting up 8.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 4 assists. she also has a 1.25 assists to turnovers ratio and is shooting 79% from the line for the 4-6 Hornets. A season ago she ended with a 1.31 ratio. The two-time Northwest Kansas League first team selection is also a quality three point shooter. Featured image: Wichita North 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="124992" first="AmUnique" last="Cavitt"].
