As the calendar turns to the new year, the basketball scene is picking up around the state. In the midst of dealing with bad weather and the virus, teams were back at it, grinding it out on the hardwood. The week 8 games that were able to be played, saw some exciting matchups. Young ladies were going toe to toe, doing everything they could to help their team prevail. Now that we have reached the halfway point, some teams and players are starting to rise to the top. In week 8, there were some girls who stepped up in a big way for their team. From overcoming teammates dealing with sickness or injuries to teams starting to hit their stride. Week 8 provided a nice glimpse of who some of the top girls in the Middle Tennessee area would be. As we approach the backstretch of the season, PGH Tennessee would like to reflect on some of the Week 8 standouts in the Middle Tennessee area. [player_tooltip player_id="421980" first="Atiya" last="Moss"] (5’9/ Jr./ CG/ Clarksville Academy)- Big-time player who stepped it up this past week. With her squad battling sickness and injuries, Atiya put on her cape and led her team to multiple victories. Knocking down clutch 3s, getting to the rim, and feeding open teammates, Atiya was the conductor of the Lady Cougars’ attack. Blessed with great court vision and poise, Atiya is a tough opponent any night of the week she suits up. [player_tooltip player_id="285370" first="Madi" last="Lewis"] (5’7/ Jr./ CG/ Columbia Academy)- Ms. Smooth. [player_tooltip player_id="285370" first="Madi" last="Lewis"] is a multi-level scoring threat. From slashing to the rim to shooting from beyond the arc, Madi is the leading scoring threat for her Lady Bulldogs club. She’s the engine the Lady Bulldogs thrive off of. With great court presence and the ability to put the ball in the hole, Madi will be a key component to the CA postseason run. [player_tooltip player_id="316607" first="Asia" last="Barr"] (5’8/Sr./PG/Lebanon)- Asia was a big standout in the win over Ravenwood for her club. The female standout plays the game with high energy and a lot of passion. She very active on defense, leading to turnovers and easy transition buckets. Has a nice mid-range game and a great court vision. Tonie Davis (5’10/Jr./PF/ Rockvale)- Think Lamar Odom, Tonie has a great inside out game. She can handle the ball, has great court vision, has a quick first step, and can finish through contact. With the ability to stretch the floor and knock down shots from the 3pt line, teams must honor her ability on the offensive end. She was a lot to handle as her Lady Rockets beat Eagleville this past weekend. Her ability to play both ends of the floors was big for her club as they obtained the W. [player_tooltip player_id="245238" first="Meioshe" last="Mason"] (6’3/Sr./C/ Lebanon)- Big presence in the painted area, Meioshe is the anchor for the Lady Devilettes. From collecting boards on both ends of the floor to unleashing a nice back to the basket game, she is truly a force down low. [player_tooltip player_id="245207" first="Karly" last="Weathers"] (5’10/Sr./CG/ Loretto)- Unbelievable talent. Karly continues to have an impressive senior season. From dialing it deep to finishing in the painted area, her ability to put the ball in the hoop has helped her team prevail over the course of the season. Her ability to contribute on the defensive end has given her team an extra spark as they move closer to the postseason. [player_tooltip player_id="245221" first="Brooklyn" last="Crouch"] (5’8/Sr./ PG/ Upperman)- One of the hardest working floor generals in the state, Brooklyn is a go-getter. A multi-level scorer who can shoot the ball lights outs from about anywhere on the court. Has the ability to change the course of the game at a moment’s notice. Creative with the ball in her hands, she can create from using screens, in the open floor, and playing tenacious defense. Was an intricate part for her team’s success this past week. [player_tooltip player_id="285332" first="Brianna" last="Burgess"] (5’10/Jr./SG/Creekwood)- Sharpshooter who can light it up. From coming off-screen to shooting in open space, Brianna knows how to find the bottom of the net. Was big for her club in their win over Summertown this past week. The 5’10 junior is a tough opponent to face. [player_tooltip player_id="285361" first="Trinity" last="Fields"] (5’4/Jr./PG/ Brentwood Academy)- Downhill attacker with the ability to shoot from beyond the arc. BA got a lift from Trinity as they beat Lipscomb this past week. Her infectious energy and her defensive prowess led her club to their victory. Trinity was a lot to handle, knockdown shots in big moments. Her ability to rise in big games such as these makes BA a threat as they get closer to postseason play.
