The road to Lakeland begins this week with state tournament play across South Florida. In this article, I would like to break down some of the top players in Class 4A Region 4. The top overall seed in this region is Calvary Christian Academy. The Eagles are 19-6 overall and currently on a nine-game winning streak. Three of their six losses were to teams from out of state. The rest of the field has some dangerous teams. [player_tooltip player_id="221649" first="Markeli" last="Jones-Tynes"] - Calvary Christian Academy 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="221649" first="Markeli" last="Jones-Tynes"] gets the job done at point guard. The 5-foot-9 prospect is averaging 9.6 points and 6.9 assists per game. That is good for a 3/1 assist/turnover ratio. Jones-Tynes has seven 10-assist games with just 13 turnovers. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91595" first="Samiyah" last="Briggs"] is leading the Eagles with 16.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting a team-best 48 percent from the field. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="220010" first="Elizabeth" last="Schnell"] is averaging 16.1 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the field. Moreover, she has made 82 3-pointers! 5-foot-11 [player_tooltip player_id="243882" first="Jocelyn" last="Gagnon"] can also stretch the floor with 42 3-pointers. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="349323" first="Nahilah" last="Clarke"] is second on the team with 5.8 rebounds per game. The Eagles have playmakers across the board. 2028 [player_tooltip player_id="248355" first="Alana" last="Pinnock"] led No. 8 seed Somerset Academy-Canyons in scoring with 15.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game while shooting 45 percent from the floor. Just a sixth grader. That's impressive! No. 4 Cardinal Gibbons and No. 5 American Heritage-Delray is an interesting game. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="220005" first="Raven" last="Hunter"] leads the Stallions in points (17.4 ppg) and rebounds (7.7 rpg). Cardinal Gibbons has a playmaker in [player_tooltip player_id="363903" first="Konstantina" last="Mantziori"]. The 5-foot-6 guard is a great ball handler, passer, and decision maker. Mantziori is a natural leader and her offensive game is developing. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="248419" first="Chloe" last="Celler"] can score off the dribble and hit an outside shot. Her and Mantziori are two players that can work off one another. 2022 Taylor Williams is a player I really like in transition. The 5-foot-9 wing is athletic and can make plays in the open floor. I see #7 seed Gulliver Prep as a dangerous team. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="219941" first="Madison" last="Aguilera"] is capable of hitting a half dozen or more 3-pointers. The 5-foot-4 guard is a 20-point scorer with over 1000 points in her high school career. Aguilera can carry a quarter by herself. Do not leave her open! 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91580" first="Riana" last="Doctor"] is long and athletic enough to control the inside. The 6-foot forward can put down a double-double on any given night. Doctor is averaging 15.9 points and 8.6 boards per game. #2 Miami Slam has quick freshman guards and a tough center in 6-foot-1 [player_tooltip player_id="331736" first="Karla" last="Quintero"]. Quintero is durable and capable of positioning herself down low for easy lay-ins. Guard Jim’Miyah Branton has bounce and can rebound (7.2 rpg) while [player_tooltip player_id="314842" first="Samantha" last="Bautista"] can shoot the three (37 percent). This could be a very good game. No. 3 seed Mater Lakes Academy has two very good 2024’s in [player_tooltip player_id="349421" first="Kalia" last="Harrington"] and [player_tooltip player_id="219924" first="Khadee" last="Hession"]. The pair have combined for 26 points, 14.7 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 6.4 steals per game. Furthermore, Harrington has knocked down a team-best 42 3-pointers. 2023’s Alondra Grullon and Victoria Escribano can score a bit too. They each average over eight points per game. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="353628" first="Prema" last="Duarte"] can shoot the three at 38 percent. 2024 Adena Webster leads Pace with 16.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="221662" first="Alessandra" last="Bonilla"] is a solid guard that can score over 16 points per game and defend. The Spartans lost two games to the Bears by a combined six points. This one might be good one as well.
