The road to Lakeland begins this week with state tournament play across South Florida.
In this article, I would like to break down some of the top players in Class 7A Region 4. The No. 1 seed is Miami High. The Stingarees are 16-8 and have won eight straight. Please contact me below regarding any updated information.
2022’s [player_tooltip player_id="243961" first="Janay" last="Quinn"] and [player_tooltip player_id="154900" first="Cameron" last="Araujo"] lead Miami High. The pair average over 11 points per game while shooting 42 percent from the field. The 5-foot-2 Quinn leads the Stingarees in assists (4.4 apg) while adding 4.6 rebounds per game. Araujo has knocked down a team-best 29 3-pointers. 2023 Joelle Wilson is a solid rebounder at ten per game. In addition, she has blocked 31 shots. On offense, the 6-foot forward is averaging just over eight points per game while shooting 49 percent from the floor. No. 8 seed Coral Glades has a roster mostly of juniors and seniors. 2022 Thais Forbes and 2023 Isabella Morales will need big games.
No. 4 seed Palmetto will face No. 5 seed Doral Academy. The Panthers are 12-2 overall behind 2023’s Aisha Bess (13.6 ppg) and Tara Llorente (7.3 rpg). In addition, each player has combined for 7 steals per game. 2023 Sophie Wylie is a capable 3-point shooter with 21 makes. The Firebirds (11-12) are paced by 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="221639" first="Gianna" last="Robles"] (14.6 ppg). Moreover, she has gone 37-of-112 (37 percent) from deep. The 5-foot-1 guard can also rebound (4 rpg) and is a good defender (2.1 spg). 2022 Jessica Williams and 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="244132" first="Izabella" last="Molina"] average over two offensive rebounds per game. Both players are top two in rebounding overall for Doral Academy.
No. 2 seed Western will face No.7 seed Braddock. The Wildcats (17-7) are having a great season behind [player_tooltip player_id="153108" first="Taja" last="Stephens"]. The 5-foot-8 guard is averaging 17.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and three steals per game while shooting 42 percent from the floor. In addition, Stephens has knocked down 30 3-pointers. She eclipsed 1000 career points this season. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="244209" first="Jordan" last="Pravato"] (8.9 ppg) can also shoot from outside (31 3pm). 2024’s Tamara Elliot (3.2 apg) and Keylee Allen (5.7 rpg) are also solid. Furthermore, 85 of Allen's 136 rebounds have come on the offensive end. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="248693" first="Riley" last="Stoker"] adds over seven points and nearly five rebounds per contest. Western is a good team beyond its seniors. The Bulldogs are an even 10-10 behind 2022’s Juliette Avila (14.5 ppg) and Amaris Gonzalez (14.3 ppg). 2025 Elsa Stier (6.6 rpg) is the Bulldogs’ top rebounder. Overall, Braddock has five players averaging over 4.6 boards per game.
No. 3 seed South Broward will face No. 6 seed Flanagan. The Bulldogs went 20-4 behind 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="219936" first="Mariah" last="Mckenzie"]. The Falcons (19-7) are led by 2023 Infinity Thomas (9.4 ppg/7.5 rpg). South Broward currently holds a 2-0 edge over Flanagan this season.
