Our Lady of Mount Carmel hosted St. Paul’s School for Girls in an IAAM B conference semi final on Friday night. OLMC were the favorites coming in but St. Paul’s proved to be a worthy opponent. The two teams slugged it out with St. Paul’s holding a one point lead at the half. They built the lead to 8 in the third and had the Cougars on the ropes.
The fourth quarter belonged to [player_tooltip player_id="137244" first="Tsion" last="Smith"] and [player_tooltip player_id="389430" first="Hawa" last="Doumbaya"]. The duo took control of the game on both ends of the court and pushed Mt. Carmel to a 65-56 victory and a trip to Harford Community College for the championship game

Tsion scored a team high 17 points including three second half 3 pointers that helped the team rally and take control of the game. Her last 3 almost blew the roof off the building as the crowd exploded into a celebration. She provided her usual tenacious on ball defense and served as a secondary ball handler as well.

It was a tale of two halves for Hawa in this game. At a legit 6’4" she has shown that she can dominate a game on both ends. She scored 14 points in this game but only had 1 point in the first half. She scored 11 in the final quarter and had several blocked shots as well, as the Cougars pulled away.

Anylah is a tough and speedy point guard that can get into the paint at will. She is fearless and the team feeds off her energy on both ends of the court. She tweaked an ankle but came back into the game to help the team close it out.

This ends up being Laurie’s last high school game and she went out with a bang. She had 30 points and 16 rebounds and played like the warrior she is. She had to battle with 6’4" [player_tooltip player_id="389430" first="Hawa" last="Doumbaya"] all game and came out on top statistically. She is glue player that is willing to do whatever it takes to help her team. At 5’9" and solidly built she can be a versatile contributer at the next level.

Shayla kept the team afloat until others got involved in the scoring. She scored 10 points in the game and made some big baskets while the game was close. Her penetration into the lane was crucial as she either scored or created opportunities for her teammates. She was strong on defense as well.

Lauryn had a very good game in last high school contest. The sharp shooting guard finished with 14 points, including three 3 pointers. She was a big reason the Gators were able to take control of the game before Mt. Carmel’s rally.
