Across this state, we are a fertile ground for producing collegiate student athletes. Especially in the game of women’s basketball, this state is littered with talented young ladies who can contribute to the success of a collegiate program. From the city streets to the countryside, we have girls of some caliber who can help add value to the collegiate program. It’s just a matter of a coach deciding what they are looking for. Many times, depending on circumstances that are unknown, we have young ladies who are overlooked. Maybe something didn’t work out. Maybe something freakish happened such as an injury. Who knows? I won’t question it. Whatever the issue or circumstance may be, there are still some young ladies out there who can hoop at the collegiate level and are looking for an opportunity to do so. I am highlighting the 901 area, Bluff City, Memphis baby. Home of BBQ and Staxs Music. This area where basketball itself is a religion. A right of passage. Apart of your daily lifestyle. There are some young ladies who are a part of the 2022 class that have gotten overlooked and coaches, they are chomping at the bit for an opportunity to continue on their basketball playing career and further their education. Here are some notable hoopers from the 901 area who are still seeking an opportunity to showcase their skills on the collegiate level. Very instinctive, anticipates well, very active on both ends of the floor. She’s a sharpshooter who can score the basketball from multiple levels on the floor. Hard working kid who loves to compete. She’s a go-getter who can help spark the play of her teammates. Mariah Hart ( 5’6/PG/MBA)- Hard working kid who operates in stealth mode. Quick, fast, just flat out gets it done. Smooth with the ball in her hands and can run an offense with the best of them. A great floor general who can facilitate the ball to open teams. Possesses a nice floated game and can get to the rim. Kia Bolton (6’1/ F/ Memphis East)- Energetic leader who is a beast on the boards. She anticipates well, cleaning up missed shots and putting them back up. Possesses great footwork in the painted area and can knock down the mid-range J. Defensively, she anchors a young Memphis East club, controlling the boards and blocking shots. Keria McGee (5’9/ SG/ Millington)- Very energetic. Plays the game of basketball with tempo. Can knock down the 3 ball, slash to the rim to get a bucket, and make timely passes. Active on the defensive end where she can jump passes or pickpocket the offensive players. Phenomenal in transition, making the right play that will help propel her team. She has a quick first step that allows her to finish at the mid-range level. She can facilitate with the best of them, dropping dimes to open perimeter shooters or dumping down to her post. She anticipates well, contributing on the defensive end in multiple ways. A heady player who is great in transition situations. Kristyna Boyd ( 5’8/ W/ Collierville)- Hard working kid who is a penetrator. She can finish at the rim against contact, dish to open teammates, and knock down timely buckets beyond the arc as well as the mid-range. Great ball handler who can use her dribble to get downhill. Can affect the game on the defensive end by getting hands on the ball. Exceptional in the double team, her defensive prowess leads to transitional breaks for her club. Heady player who loves the game of basketball.
