She’s always comfortable, always composed, and always ready to compete. The rangy senior sees the court, consistently knows where her teammates are on the hardwood, and gets them the ball in the best possible position to succeed.
If she needs to put up big points, she can do that. She scored 30 points against Woodrow Wilson earlier in the year. She’s a standout point guard to hand the keys of your team to. “She attacks and finishes well with people guarding her,” PHS head coach Chris Murray said.
Jaycee Elzy Jaycee Elzy 5'11" | C St. Albans | 2025 State WV , St. Albans, C, Fr., 6-0 – She’s a player who makes onlookers excited when thinking about her future. She plays with a lot of confidence for a first-year player.
Hard charging and hardworking are terms that describe her best. She’s fast moves down the floor well and causes a lot of problems for teams in the Red Dragons’ transition game. The high school game may move a bit too fast for her at times, but she’s adjusted well since the beginning of the season.
McKennan Hall, Ripley, G, Jr., 5-4 – The Vikings point guard is someone always playing hard when on the hardwood.
She’s like a Tasmanian Devil on the court, wherever the ball is, she’s often there too. She’s a great leader for the Vikings who plays with a lot of energy. She does a little bit of everything from leading in scoring, rebounding, assists, or steals. Her length and stature don’t hold her back. She’s comfortable putting in the extra effort and more often than not it pays off.
Corin Edsell Corin Edsell 5'7" | CG Spring Mills | 2024 WV , Spring Mills, SG, So., 5-6 – The kid is a sharpshooter. Plain and simple. That’s not to say she doesn’t do anything else. She certainly does.
But she squares up quickly, puts the ball in the air quickly and shoots a high percentage, which just can’t be ignored. Her mechanics are easily repeatable. She shouldn’t have to adjust much at the college level. She’s a very talented sophomore. It’s hard to look past her shooting game as the best part of her overall package. That’s where she’s going to make her bacon at the next level.
Julia Preservati Julia Preservati 5'3" | CG St. Joseph | 2022 State WV , Huntington St. Joe, SG, Sr., 5-5 – Preservati holds the potential to explode for big points in no time at all.
Her arsenal includes a 3-point shot, a transition game, and the ability to finish through contact. Everything’s available to her from the get-go and there’s no telling when she might go off. One 3 may lead to team pressure, which leads to a steal and then to a transition bucket. Basically, she’s got options. Coaches want to keep an eye on this senior because of her fire for the game and ability to put the ball in the basket.
Lynndsey Cassell, Tolsia, G, Sr., 5-8 – Talk about a sneaky good shooter. Cassell may not get a ton of attention, but she doesn’t need it. Playing point guard for Tolsia, she threatens buckets wherever she is on the floor. She’s not afraid to post up, but her main strength is her ability to knock down shots with a defender in her face. Her length allows her time to gather herself and shoot over many defenders.
Amara Jackson, Huntington, PF, So., 6-1 – Jackson is a tall physical player who loves when things get a little rough in a game. She excels at playing a tough brand of basketball. Her length allows her to disrupt defenders shot attempts. She’s a tough kid who can finish down low through major contact. Going to be on display during the next few seasons due to graduation losses for the Highlanders this spring.
Ella Simpson Ella Simpson 5'7" | SF University | 2025 WV , University, G/F, So., 5-7 – Simpson always stands out as one of the hardest working kids on the floor. She doesn’t mind getting dirty in the paint but can also run out to pop off a shot from the 3-point line. If she misses that shot, she’s likely to get another one because she tracks her shot so well for the rebound. She’s got a lot of shots in her arsenal.
Lena Elkins, Nitro, PF, Sr., 6-0 – Although she’s already signed on to play college baseball, Elkins remains a solid basketball prospect. She excels at what coach Pat Jones asks her to do. She’s always around the rim and always in position to grab some rebounds with her height and frame. She then finishes well around the hoop when she secures a rebound. Even when she isn’t in the game, she’s yelling on the bench and doing the things to keep the sixth man alive and well.
Maddy Young Maddy Young 6'0" | PF Hurricane | 2024 WV , Hurricane, F, Jr., 6-0 – She’s shown solid leadership for a Redskins’ team that struggled through a tough schedule filled with Mountain State Athletic Conference schools. She’s a confident athlete capable of leading her team in scoring. She can explode for points as evidenced by her seven 3- ball performance against George Washington.
