2021-2022 Class 2A Honors

With the 2021-2022 season having concluded on Saturday, I wanted to take the time to offer up a handful of awards based on how everyone in Class 2A performed this year. As it specifically concerns the All-State teams, my decision was an equal-parts judgement call that factored in a combination of skill, ability, individual statistics, and team success from this specific season. With regards to the Freshman class (2025), I created a specific All-State team and Freshman of the Year award to honor them, so you won’t see Freshmen in any of the other groupings except for Honorable Mention All-State. At the end of the day, this is simply an attempt to honor girls who I thought stood out this season in Class 2A.   MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER [player_tooltip player_id="59732" first="Ashlynn" last="Brooke"], 2023, 5-7 PG, Pioneer H.S. During her first two years of high school, Ashlynn was snakebitten by injuries, battling through knee damage each of the last two seasons. Over that span, she managed just 23 games played, but she did score 289 points, a 12.6 per game average. In 2021-2022, Ashlynn was finally able to play a full season and show her capabilities, playing 25 games, pouring in 648 points, while also handing out 168 assists. She went for more than 30 points five times, more than 40 points twice, and she shot the ball well from all areas (45% FGs, 40% 3FGs, 81% FTs). Ashlynn recently gave a verbal commitment to play at Ball State University. MOST VALUABLE PLAYER [player_tooltip player_id="127219" first="Caitlyn" last="Campbell"], 2023, 5-11 SF, Winchester Community H.S. Caitlyn is one of those do-everything, position-less type of ballplayers. She is a long, fluid, smooth, athletic wing who can play any of three positions. She can handle the ball like a point forward and run/initiate the offense for the Golden Falcons. She is a 36% 3-point shooter, so she’s comfortable outside, but she also dissects defenses and scores at the basket or collapses them and finds open teammates. She can also sit down and defend multiple positions. Opponents know her well, but being a multisport athlete, it’s tough for statewide fans to see her play, so I recommend checking out video online if you get a chance. MOST IMPROVED PLAYER [player_tooltip player_id="127244" first="Camryn" last="Wise"], 2023, 5-10 SF, Wapahani H.S. Camryn was a contributor as a Freshman, averaging nearly ten points per game at that time. She made some growth from her rookie season to year-two, but her jump from last year to this season was very noticeable. Stepping into a much bigger leadership role, Camryn increased her scoring average from 11.9 points in 2020-2021 to 18.7 points in 2021-2022. She was also strong on the boards again, plus she made a lot of plays off the bounce, and she created turnovers at the defensive end of the floor. She shot it 8% better from the field this season as well. She is another multisport athlete who doesn’t play much grassroots ball. FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR Jacklynn Hosier, 2025, 5-6 CG, Alexandria-Monroe H.S. The 2020-2021 Lady Tigers graduated five Seniors in total, 38.8 points per game, and 17.4 rebounds per game. They returned two starters, and just three of their core rotation players from a season ago. With that said, Jacklynn was going to have an opportunity this year, but I don’t know that many people saw her contributing in the manner that she did. She showed the ability to knock down shots outside, score the ball at the free throw line, and finish around the basket. But she also rebounded her position well, she acted as a second point guard, and she was active at the defensive end of the floor, helping Alexandria to a 17-6 record.
