2023 Rankings: Top Shooting Guards

As we approach the end of this high school season, we want to highlight some of the top shooting guards in our latest 2023 rankings update. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="255504" first="Noelle" last="Hubert"] | Notre Dame</strong> Hubert is one of the best shooters in the state, regardless of class. She’s a sniper with great range. The release on her shot is so quick that you can’t play off of her even a little bit without the risk of potentially giving Hubert an open look, and she shot 40.5% from 3 in over 200 attempts, so that’s a big risk to take. However, she also utilizes her shot fakes well and can get into the paint to create offense for her team. Fundamentally strong all-around player. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="164388" first="Saniyah" last="Shelton"] | Bowling Green</strong> Shelton is one of the most athletic players I’ve watched play this season. She has great hands and is constantly getting steals and deflections. She has great length, handles the ball well, and makes good passes. She does a really good job of shifting her body around the basket and finding ways to finish. She also makes some really great moves and head fakes around the basket that get the defense off their feet. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="164396" first="Kay" last="Freihofer"] | Cooper</strong> Freihofer is excellent at finding the gaps and catching the ball ready to shoot. She’s capable of getting hot and hitting multiple 3’s in any given game. She makes good, strong passes as well. Freihofer has a great jump stop and she utilizes it at the right moments. You don’t see her off balance or out of control much at all. On the defensive end, she reads the passing lanes well. She also can guard inside and she guards post players extremely well, even if they are much bigger than her. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="259217" first="Austin" last="Johnson"] | Ryle</strong> Johnson is special because she does all of the things that require hard work and she does it on both ends of the court. She is easily one of the best defenders on the state, both on and off the ball. She is a great shot blocker and she crashes the boards hard. Her fundamentals are all strong. On the offensive end, she makes smart choices with the ball and doesn’t try to force much. Her shot selection is great and she is very efficient. She is really a spark when she’s on the floor. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="164403" first="Kylee" last="Dennis"] | Sayre</strong> Dennis is a natural scorer. She finishes really well around the basket, she can shoot, and it’s extremely hard to stop her in the transition game. She’s super quick and uses her speed to go right past defenders. Her handles are strong and she’s able to make even a basic crossover or behind the back move look like an elite move because she utilizes her moves so well. Dennis is also a really good defender. She’s able to elevate and get steals and deflections that most players can’t get.
