In collaboration with my friends at the Sunflower Smack Show I present to you our Class 6A Day 1 All-Tournament Team. Players are listed in the order of the games watched Wednesday night.
[player_tooltip player_id="94954" first="Addyson" last="Brown"], 6’2", PF, Derby, 2023 - Brown worked to score inside and competed well on the glass. Repeatedly strung together multiple post moves inside and elevated on shots. She scored well in mid-range and showed good shot blocking ability.
[player_tooltip player_id="127277" first="S’Mya" last="Nichols"], 6’0", SG/SF, Shawnee Mission West, 2023 - Nichols was very physical offensively. Was the only Viking able to create shots for herself off the dribble. Was extremely explosive on the drive and showed good offensive rebounding smarts.
[player_tooltip player_id="198386" first="Jadyn" last="Wooten"], 5’6", PG, Blue Valley, 2024 - Fast, quick, and very athletic with the ball and a determined defender. Pushed tempo strongly, used post moves in either direction to create space to attack and finish as well as to draw contact. Went end-to-end to score for the win off a whirling, athletic, challenged finish.
[player_tooltip player_id="191205" first="Sophie" last="Deveney"], 5’10", SF, Blue Valley, 2022 - A scrappy rebounder who defended multiple positions, scored with contact, shot well from the perimeter, and blocked shots. She was crucial to their success.
[player_tooltip player_id="48269" first="Talayah" last="Thomas"], 5’6", PG, Topeka, 2022 - While inconsistent with her shot, her deep three point range and ability to anticipate passes to generate steals stood out. She gave Topeka a one point lead with 20 seconds left with a long three.
[player_tooltip player_id="349796" first="Jaliya" last="Davis"], 6’2", PF, Blue Valley North, 2025 - Davis displayed sustained energy on both ends of the floor. Played at a level all game that fuels the argument that she is the best center prospect in the state. Length, hops, strength, speed, quickness, and skill set wore down defenders in the second half. Davis scored well off the bounce and in transition.
[player_tooltip player_id="349453" first="Aubrey" last="Shaw"], 6’1", CG, Blue Valley North, 2025 - Shaw was fast and handled well in transition, leading the break effectively. Used her length and quickness to good advantage on both ends of the floor. A very heady player who was a consistent perimeter threat.
[player_tooltip player_id="93981" first="Sania" last="Copeland"], 5’7", CG, Olathe North, 2022 - Whether from either corner, the wings, or top of the key Copeland was able to knock down perimeter shots. That included a three-ball with less than six seconds left in the game. She also showed an ability to finish with contact.
[player_tooltip player_id="94011" first="Ashlyn" last="Alloway"], 5’11", CG, Olathe North, 2022 - Alloway's strong shooting was punctuated with a quick release. She showed transition handles, quick hands and good timing illustrated by a perimeter block on a [player_tooltip player_id="349453" first="Aubrey" last="Shaw"] three point attempt.
[player_tooltip player_id="125001" first="Camree" last="Johnson"], 5’8", CG, Dodge City, 2022 - Johnson’s quickness, athleticism, and strength drover her ability to finish with either hand; score against contact; and score against double teams. She elevated well on her shots as well as when rebounding. Played solid defensively.
[player_tooltip player_id="192821" first="Zoe" last="Canfield"], 5’10", CG, Washburn Rural, 2024 - showing her prowess defensively she also was deadly on the perimeter, going 6/7 from beyond the arc and with range.
