Class 2A State Tournament: All-Tournament Team
Another year of IHSA girls basketball has come and gone as we ended it on the campus of Illinois State University at Redbird Arena Saturday. America’s original March Madness was full of exciting games and players over the past few days. The Quincy Notre Dame Raiders came away with the 2022 state championship. Here is my all tournament team:
Abbey Schreacke Abbey Schreacke 6'0" | SG Quincy Notre Dame | 2023 State IL | QND – MVP
Out of all of the classes, Abbey had one of the most dominant performances and tournaments. She went off in the championship game on her way to 35pts and 11rebs to bring QND home with the 2A state championship. Abbey set the record for most points in a 2A title game by finding her super smooth pull up jumper from mid range. Abbey is a big, strong, and complete player who gets it done anywhere on the floor in any statistical category. Schreacke averaged 24pts, 13rebs, 5ast, 3.5stl, and 1.5blks in her two tournament games. Those type of numbers earned Abbey my MVP award.
Blair Eftink | QND
The junior can score in a variety of ways and showed that this weekend. In the semifinal, she was deadly from deep but in the final she showed her ability to put the ball on the deck to attract contact to finish at the line at a high percentage shooting 10-12 from the line on the weekend. Blair finished the tournament averaging 15.5pts and 4.5rebs on the way to winning the states biggest trophy.
Lia Quintero | QND
Lia plays the guard position to perfection with the ability to push the ball up the floor at a good pace. The junior has great basketball IQ and positions herself in the right positions to score. She stepped up big in the championship by hitting a few 3’s in the corner. Lia averaged 8ppg in her two tournament games.
Campbell Schrank Campbell Schrank 5'10" | SF Winnebago | 2023 State IL | Winnebago
The junior got creative with her shot selection throughout the tournament with the ability to score at all levels. She has a great first step to get to the bucket and can put them up in bunches. Campbell averaged 14pts, 7rebs, and 2ast a game through her two games at Redbird Arena.
Renee Rittmeyer | Winnebago
Renee is a strong forward who gets to the basket and finishes strong at a high percentage. She also has the ability to step out and hit the deep shot going 3-3 on the weekend. Her presence down low allowed her to average 14pts and 7.5reb during the state finals.
Miyah Brown Miyah Brown 5'10" | CG Winnebago | 2022 State IL | Winnebago
Miyah went to work in the title game dropping 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She is an athletic guard who looks to get to the hoop and score with crafty moves as well as a solid pull up jumper. She’s a great defender as well who turns steals into easy offensive buckets. Miyah averaged 8pts, 8.5rebs, and 2blks per game in the tournament.
Jillian Hamilton Jillian Hamilton 5'11" | SF Pana | 2022 State IL | Pana
The senior showed us why she earned all state honors with her ability to score at three levels. Jillian’s athletic driving ability with her strong body is what shined this weekend. She averaged 13.5pts, 7.5rebs, and 5ast a game to help Pana bring home the 3rd place trophy.
Lainey Hicks | Pana
Lainey was a huge piece for her team to help them bring home the 3rd place trophy. She used her strong body to dominate the paint through her time in the tournament. The senior was efficient from the field shooting 8-14 scoring second chance buckets for her team. Her averages in the tournament were 9pts and 6rebs per game.
Ellie Kuhn | Pana
Ellie was effective on the defensive end of the ball turning defensive steals into offense for her team. She had the ability to step out an hit the 3-point shot when she found herself open. The senior averaged 9pts, 3.5rebs, and 3.5stls a game.
Kaitlin White Kaitlin White 5'6" | PG Fieldcrest | 2024 IL | Fieldcrest
Kaitlin plays with a lot of heart, fight, and toughness. Although her team didn’t find a win while in Normal, she was the shining star for Fieldcrest. She shot the ball at a high rate being deadly from deep shooting 8-13 in her two games. The sophomore averaged 18pts, 7rebs, 2.5ast, and 2.5 steals a game. This is a name we’ll hear more of as time goes on.
