The class of 2022 has a load of talent. With over 90 players either signed or committed in the class of 2022 – there continues to be opportunities for some of Florida’s talent to continue their athletic and academic careers at the college level. Here are some recent players that have come off the board and found new homes for next school year.
Warner University in Lake Wales, FL has made a big push to recruit in state under Head Coach Nikki Jessie with over half of its roster hailing from the sunshine state each of the last two years. They have continued to add in state talent with Alexis Surin (Sunlake HS) and Emani Theodule Emani Theodule 5'6" | CG American Heritage | 2022 State FL (American Heritage Plantation) 5’8 Guard making the decision to attend Warner this month. Surin is an inside presence that will give them solid rebounding and good finishing ability inside while Theodule helped lead American Heritage Plantation to a state championship averaging 12.2 PPG, 3 APG, 2 SPG and is widely considered one of the top 3-point shooters in Florida!
Trinity College in Trinity, FL is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association. They picked up two in state players this month, with Elyssa Clark (University HS) and Kaila Santiago (Deltona HS) committing to the Tigers. Clark is a 5’6 guard / wing who provided a spark coming off the bench for University HS while Santiago is a 5’5 combo guard who finished 2nd in the team in scoring this past season at 7.5 points per game to go along with 3.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.7 steals while shooting 32% from the field.
Wildwood HS once again had a great season making it to the Final Four in Lakeland. Seniors Jayce Williams and Nataya McGee Nataya McGee 5'10" | SF Wildwood | 2022 State FL were a big part of Wildwood’s success and are both committed to attend St. Petersburg College next year and will continue their academic and athletic careers as teammates. Williams is a 5’5 Guard who averaged 5.5 PPG, 3.6 APG, and 2.6 SPG, serving as one of the teams main ball handlers and a pesty on ball defender. While McGee averaged close to a double-double averaging 9.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. She is a versatile 5’11 wing/forward who plays hard on both ends of the floor and can guard multiple positions using her size, length and athleticism effectively.
Liv Bodenheimer had a big year for Gulf High School out of New Port Richey. She averaged an impressive 12.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.8 steals per game in 18 contests. At 5’11, she has great versatility and can play inside and outside. She has the ability to step out to the 3-point line but shoots a much better percentage from mid-range and finishing inside the paint. She will suit it up for Hillsborough College next year.
5’10 Guard / Wing Ionna Garcia Ionna Garcia 5'11" | PF Holy Trinity Episcopal | 2022 State FL helped lead Holy Trinity Episcopal to one of its best seasons in school history, finishing 20-8 and making it the regional championship game. Garcia will take her talents to Converse University after leading Holy Trinity in both points (12.9 PPG) and rebounds (8.0 RPG). She is a talented, versatile player that has a long wing span, great length and is a skilled offensive player that plays under control and is a good decision maker.
5’5 Point Guard Jojo Raposo (Bloomingdale HS) was one of our favorite players in the fall at the Red’s Super 64. She did a little bit of everything for Bloomingdale this season leading them in points, assists, and steals while helping Bloomingdale to a 25-6 record before falling to FHSAA 6A State Runner-Up Wekiva HS. Raposo does a good job handling the ball, distributing the basketball to scorers in scoring positions, while finding spots to create her own shot and get to the rim. She will play next year at St Thomas Aquinas College.
I don’t know if there was a player that had her stock rise more during the 2021 travel season and 2021-22 High School season then Maya Williams Maya Williams 5'6" | CG St Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State FL (St. Thomas Aquinas). Coming off the bench during her Junior season, Williams handled backup point guard duties and came into to help space the floor and knock down open 3s. But as a Senior, she developed into a consistent starter and vocal leader, helping St. Thomas Aquinas to the 6A State Championship while averaging 7.2 points per game, running the point guard position and shooting a high percentage from 3!
