D2 Regional Semifinal Predictions

The regional Semifinals tip off tonight! The Division 2 games feature top notch teams and some of the top talent in the state, the Midwest, and even the country. Here’s my predictions for every Division 2 regional semifinal game. <h3>REGIONAL 11 AT MUSKEGON ORCHARD VIEW</h3> NEWAYGO VS. SPRING LAKE The Records: Newaygo: 21-1 Spring Lake: 14-8 Prediction: Newaygo The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="179093" first="Jaxi" last="Long"] (2022, SG, Newaygo) and [player_tooltip player_id="179094" first="Emmerson" last="Goodin"] (2022, PF, Newaygo)</strong> This pair were named Division 2 Final 4 MVP Honorable Mentions last season and they have dominating in their senior season. Newaygo is primed to make a deep playoff run this year. Spring Lake is underrated and will give them a battle, but the big 2 lead their team to the next round. GRAND RAPIDS WEST CATHOLIC VS. GRAND RAPIDS CHRISTIAN The Records: Grand Rapids West Catholic: 21-1 Grand Rapids Christian: 16-6 Prediction: Grand Rapids West Christian The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147716" first="Abbey" last="Kimball"] (2022, PG, West Catholic)</strong> Kimball is Prep Girls Hoops #63 ranked player in the country. She’s a playmaking guard that has the ability to lead her talented teammates to the Breslin Center. <h3>REGIONAL 12 AT VICKSBURG</h3> DOWAGIAC VS. WAYLAND The Records: Dowagiac: 9-13 Wayland: 14-8 Prediction: Wayland The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="230825" first="Maddy" last="Terry"] (2023, PG, Wayland)</strong> Terry is an excellent shooter and has the ability to catch fire from behind the arc. She will scorch the nets in this game and help her team advance. EDWARDSBURG VS. OTSEGO The Records: Edwardsburg: 22-0 Otsego: 18-4 Prediction: Edwardsburg The Star: <strong>Macey Laubach (2022, PF, Edwardsburg)</strong> Laubach has had a stellar senior season and been a key part of her team’s 22 game winning streak. Her 2 way play will help Edwardsburg advance. <h3>REGIONAL 15 AT LIVONIA CLARENCEVILLE</h3> DETROIT COUNTRY DAY VS. LIVONIA CLARENCEVILLE The Records: Detroit Country Day: 10-7 Livonia Clarenceville: 14-6 Prediction: Detroit Country Day The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="244297" first="Jaidyn" last="Elam"] (2024, CG, Detroit Country Day)</strong> As Elam and her DCD team gains experience, they only become more dangerous. Elam is a slippery guard that can score at all 3 levels. She’ll be a key in her team advancing to the regional final. WARREN REGINA VS. ST. CLAIR SHORES SOUTH LAKE The Records: Warren Regina: 8-13 St. Clair Shores South Lake: 19-3 Prediction: St. Clair Shores South Lake The Star: <strong>Khadajah Williams (2022, PF, St. Clair Shores South Lake)</strong> Williams has been a veteran presence in the post for South Lake. With Williams and freshman star <strong>Dania McClain </strong>holding down the paint, South Lake moves on. <h3>REGIONAL 16 AT ORTONVILLE BRANDON</h3> MARYSVILLE VS. BLOOMFIELD HILLS CRANBROOK The Records: Marysville: 20-2 Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook: 14-5 Prediction: Marysville The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="227305" first="Kaitlyn" last="Cain"] (2022, G/F, Marysville)</strong> In what I believe could be a very good regional semifinal game, a star may need to step up. Welcome [player_tooltip player_id="227305" first="Kaitlyn" last="Cain"]. Marysville advances. IMLAY CITY VS. LAKE FENTON The Records: Imlay City: 19-3 Lake Fenton: 19-3 Prediction: Lake Fenton The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="178874" first="Kerrigan" last="Howdeshell"] (2022, PG, Lake Fenton)</strong> This game is a rematch from December, a game that saw Lake Fenton win by a double digit margin. I think the game will be much closer, as Imlay City has been playing really good basketball. Howdeshell could be the key as Lake Fenton’s ultra reliable floor leader. <h3>REGIONAL 13 AT TECUMSEH</h3> MARSHALL VS. PORTLAND The Records: Marshall:  16-6 Portland: 21-1 Prediction: Portland The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="253597" first="Ashley" last="Bower"] (2022, SG, Portland)</strong> Bower was probably the playoff MVP last season and her terrific play continues. She’ll have a 20 plus point game and lead her team to victory. WILLIAMSTON VS. CHELSEA The Records: Williamston: 17-6 Chelsea: 19-3 Prediction: Williamston The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="189307" first="Isabel" last="Lindo"] (2023, PG, Williamston)</strong> I’ve loved Williamston’s ability to get meaningful contributions from a variety of players this season. With that being the case, I chose a guard that can direct traffic and control the pace as the star that leads the way in the win. <h3>REGIONAL 14 AT DETROIT EDISON</h3> ROMULUS VS. CARLETON AIRPORT The Records: Romulus: 19-2 Carleton Airport: 14-8 Prediction:  Romulus The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147795" first="Zaneira" last="Morrissette"] (2022, SF, Romulus)</strong> Morrissette has had a breakout senior season. She’s been a consistent scoring threat off the wing, highlighting her athleticism and playmaking abilities. REDFORD WESTFIELD PREP VS. DETROIT EDISON The Records: Redford Westfield Prep: 20-1 Detroit Edison: 14-3 Prediction: Detroit Edison The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147713" first="Ruby" last="Whitehorn"] (2022, PG, Detroit Edison)</strong> Whitehorn is an elite guard on a national scale. In an early playoff game pitting what might be the top 2 Division 2 teams, Whitehorn size, strength, and ball skills help DEPSA advance. <h3>REGIONAL 9 AT GAYLORD</h3> NEGAUNEE VS. SAULT STE. MARIE The Records: Negaunee: 17-4 Sault St. Marie: 18-4 Prediction: Sault Ste. Marie The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="189305" first="Claire" last="Erickson"] (2023, SG, Sault Ste. Marie)</strong> Don’t let Erickson slide under the radar because she is a top notch guard. The consistent scorer and 2 way player will lead her team to a hard fought win. LUDINGTON VS. STANDISH-STERLING The Records: Ludington: 17-5 Standish-Sterling: 17-5 Prediction: Standish-Sterling The Star: <strong>Macey Fegan (2023, PG, Standish-Sterling)</strong> Fegan is a special talent. While dealing with <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="256554" first="Keelyn" last="Laird"] </strong>in the paint will be tough for Standish-Sterling, they have one of the most talented guards in the state in Fegan. <h3>REGIONAL 10 AT FRANKENMUTH</h3> SAGINAW SWAN VALLEY VS. BELDING The Records: Saginaw Swan Valley: 18-4 Belding: 19-3 Prediction: Belding The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="244230" first="Brook" last="Simpson"] (2024, CG, Belding)</strong> Simpson is one of the most talented players in the state regardless of class. Swan Valley is playing great basketball, so Simpson will have to make clutch plays for her team to move on. The thing is, that’s what she does on a regular basis. FRANKENMUTH VS. OVID-ELSIE The Records: Frankenmuth: 20-2 Ovid-Elsie: 21-1 Prediction: Frankenmuth The Star: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147726" first="Zoey" last="Persails"] (2022, CG, Frankenmuth)</strong> The senior won’t let the regional semifinals be her last game.
