There were a lot of great ballplayers on the First Coast who had very special seasons. In this article, we look at a few of the top performers from St Johns County. We break the performances down by the classes.
Top Freshman: [player_tooltip player_id="248553" first="Kendall" last="Kane"], 6’0” CG (Bartram) had an amazing year for a Freshman and continued to get better as the season progressed. One thing about Kane is that she wasn’t afraid of big moments, and she wasn’t afraid to take the big shot. She finished the season with an average of nearly 10 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. Numbers don’t justify her importance to her team. Kane took on primary ball-handling duties and press break duties. She scored over 222 points for the year and 129 of the points came from behind the 3-point line as Kane was not shy of shooting from behind the arc. Kane connected on 43 three-pointers for the season. [player_tooltip player_id="400774" first="Jade" last="Spivey"], 5’9” G (Creekside) had a nice freshman season and was a close second behind Kane. Spivey averaged nearly 10 points per game and nearly 3 steals per game. Spivey’s confidence and her teammate’s confidence in her are what stood out most.

The word “clutch” best describes Gavazzi this past season. The bigger the moment the better she played. Gavazzi did a great job anchoring the point guard position for her guard-heavy roster. She made big shots all season long, including a few game-winners. Gavazzi led a well-balanced Ponte Vedra team in scoring with 12.3 points per game. Gavazzi had multiple games where she scored 20 plus points. Other sophomores who had big years were Aniyah Fisher (St Augustine) who averaged 8 points per game and pulled down 6.5 rebounds per game and [player_tooltip player_id="248291" first="Kennedy" last="Rosendahl"] ( Ponte Vedra) who averaged 10.6 points per game.

Robinson was special this year and took on a lot of ball-handling responsibilities. Robinson was a consistent scorer throughout the season and was a good second option for Nease. Robinson finished the season with nearly a 15 point per game scoring average, including 55 three-pointers. Robinson was also a good defender who averaged 3.1 steals per game.

Gomes finished the season with an average of nearly 20 points per game, 4.9 assists, and 6.2 rebounds per game. Other seniors who played well were St Augustine teammates [player_tooltip player_id="91588" first="Janiyah" last="Jackson"] and [player_tooltip player_id="219949" first="Emily" last="McIntosh"]. Jackson averaged a double-double for the season (13.8 points and 14 rebounds per game).
