In South Jersey, several sectional finals took place, including the Group 1 final between two great teams in Wildwood and Woodbury. Here are some standouts from Monday’s sectional final.
Imene Fathi Imene Fathi 5'4" | PG Wildwood | 2022 State NJ (Sr.) – 5-6 PG/SG, Wildwood
Fathi finished off the sectional tournament in style for Wildwood, putting up 15 points along with four rebounds and eight assists. She’s been a much more prevalent passer in recent games, averaging 7.3 APG in sectional play. We’ve seen her intensity and passion rise, which has given way to better play on the floor. Fathi has carried Wildwood this season on many occasions, and once again, her stellar performance helped take down Woodbury.
Macie McCracken (Fr.) – 5-6 SG, Wildwood
What a freshman year McCracken has had so far for Wildwood, capping it off with a game-high 16 points in their sectional final victory. Her three made three-pointers gave her 60 made on the season and it was her 11th game with 3+ threes overall. If you want some underrated freshmen to keep tabs on, McCracken fits that billing and she’ll be continuing to dominate this spring/summer.
Ava Troiano (Sr.) – 5-8 PG/SG, Wildwood
Troiano was the difference-maker in Wildwood’s semifinal win over Woodstown, scoring 20 points along with seven steals. In the sectional final, she knocked down a three-pointer on her way to a nine-point night, adding on four rebounds and two assists. Troiano evolved into an active scorer and an energetic player on the offensive end this season. However, her defensive presence has been what’s made her such a key part of this Wildwood team as a senior.
Emily Little (Sr.) – 6-2 PF/C, Wildwood
Little was neutralized more on the offensive and rebounding end in this game as she faced D1 commit Nile Miller Nile Miller 6'1" | PF Woodbury | 2022 State NJ in the paint. Despite the tough matchup, Little hauled in four rebounds, recorded two steals and had her second-straight multi-block game, her ninth in her last 12, in the win. She uses her height well to her advantage and even with her 6-2 frame, she’s mobile and agile on the defensive end. She can get to shot attempts that many others can’t.
Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ (Jr.) – 6-0 SG/SF, Woodbury
Simply put, Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ was Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ on Monday, recording her 10th-straight double-double, a 21-point, 18-rebound effort. The junior standout also had three blocks in the loss, but played incredibly well and even against a tough opponent in Wildwood, looked unstoppable overall. Davis ended the season averaging 27.3 PPG and 14.6 RPG for the Thundering Herd and should be absolutely ridiculous as a senior next season.
Nile Miller Nile Miller 6'1" | PF Woodbury | 2022 State NJ (Sr.) – 6-1 PF, Woodbury
Miller was an effective player on the defensive end for Woodbury in the sectional final, hauling in 10 rebounds along with a block and four steals. In just 17 games played for the Thundering Herd, Miller averaged nearly six steals a game and 1.6 blocks a game, hauling in 10+ rebounds in her last three games. She put in a shift on the defensive end for Woodbury and forced Wildwood into tough interior shots.
Abby Bash (So.) – 5-10 SG, Woodbury
Bash is a key player that will be returning to Woodbury next season as she looked like a strong three-point shooter, knocking down a three in the sectional final on her way to nine points and six rebounds. She hit two threes in each of her previous two sectional tournament games. Bash is capable of scoring 12-15 points a night for the Thundering Herd, and with more experience after this season, should be reaching that mark more consistently as a junior.
