With so many new additions to the list, we wanted to go into more detail about different positions starting in this article. Here are the top five bigs in the updated 2023 class rankings.
No. 5: Brynn McCurry Brynn McCurry 6'1" | PF Sparta | 2023 State NJ – 6-1, Sparta
McCurry, who we talked about in our top five 2023 prospects article, is incredibly talented as a post player for Sparta and can do just about anything on the floor. While the bread and butter of her game lies in the interior, she’s done a great job at expanding her game closer to and outside of the perimeter. It’s given her that extra dimension in her game to operate at a higher production clip on the floor. She’s turned herself into one of the best forwards in the state as a result of those small adjustments.
No. 6: Emma Peretti Emma Peretti 5'11" | PF Hammonton | 2023 State NJ – 5-11, Hammonton
Peretti is one of the best rebounders in the state without a doubt and combining that with one of the most pure post games around, she’s a double-threat. The sheer level of production she was able to put up on a consistent basis last season is mind-boggling, nearly 20 and 16 a game. Her ability to get to the foul line is also something to behold as last season, she averaged 4.7 made free throws a game, showing that she can generate offense in a number of ways. Her rebounding skill shouldn’t be overlooked as the way she’s able to box out opponents and control the glass is something to behold.
No. 11: Nir Nir Cherry-Montague Nir Nir Cherry-Montague 6'6" | PF Atlantic City | 2023 State NJ – 6-2, Atlantic City
Cherry-Montague was very high up on our original list because of her raw skillset and 6-2 frame. You can’t teach size and this season, we finally saw what that can help produce as she averaged well over a double-double for Atlantic City as a junior. She also recored over two assists a game, nearly two steals a game and over three blocks a game, all of which are very encouraging for future development from her. She’s also done well to expand her range, knocking down 11 threes on the year. If she can continue to dominate in the lane while shooting from downtown, Cherry-Montague is going to be a very, very dangerous player overall
No. 24: Maddie Branigan Maddie Branigan 6'0" | PF St. Dominic | 2023 State NJ – 6-0, St. Dominic
Branigan, despite not playing during the 2021-22 season, has significant upside after nearly averaging a double-double over her first two high school seasons. She has great height for a forward and can man the interior well. She operates best down low on the post and can score at ease, but its her defense that has the most intriguing upside. Branigan has the potential to be a player who can average 2-4 blocks a game, and with continued development of her agility and vertical, she can reach those totals.
No. 32: Nia Scott Nia Scott 6'1" | PF Shawnee | 2023 State NJ – 6-1, Shawnee
This Shawnee team is one of the best in the program’s history in recent years without a doubt and Scott is the inside presence that keeps the engine running. Scott had a career year this season for good reason. She’s become much more poised and mature as a player and attacks the rim with more aggression, but is much more effective and efficient at finishing plays. We saw Scott score and rebound much more frequently near the basket and her shot-blocking production increased significantly. Next year, Scott is going to be one of the best forwards in South Jersey, without a doubt.
