Continue ReadingJust three months have passed since we first ranked the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2025, so you wouldn’t expect a whole lot of change from the Freshmen 50 we announced back in November. But there has actually been some significant movement, not the least of which is the departure of former #6 Katie Kelzenberg Katie Kelzenberg 6'2" | PF Wayzata | 2025 State MN of Wayzata. The big power forward was a slam dunk Division 1 prospect who had dominated for Minnesota Stars Borowicz over the past number of summers. Alas, Katie decided last fall that volleyball was going to be her focus. Until that changes we have moved her off the list.
That means that everyone in positions #7 through #15 moved up one spot. Other than that the order at the top of the list remains the same, including #1 Aaliyah Crump Aaliyah Crump 6'1" | SF Minnetonka | 2025 State MN of Minnetonka, #2 Kendall McGee Kendall McGee 5'10" | CG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State MN of Benilde-St. Margaret’s, #3 Jordan Ode Jordan Ode 5'11" | CG Maple Grove | 2025 State MN of Maple Grove, #4 Bree Bowman Bree Bowman 6'2" | SF Prior Lake | 2025 State MN of Prior Lake and #5 Addison Mack Addison Mack 5'9" | PG Minnehaha Academy | 2025 State MN of Minnehaha Academy.
We also added 26 newcomers this time around, expanding the list to 75 freshmen heading into the spring and summer season. We’ll introduce the newcomers in a day or two. In the meantime let’s look at the stock risers, those players who showed our evaluators enough this winter to earn an improved ranking. Presented here in order of improvement are the six players in the Freshmen 50 who moved up the most.
We should also note, as we always try to do, that this list is a ranking of a player’s potential as a college basketball player, not their current level of performance. There are some nice varsity players who are not included in our 2025 Top 75 and there are some highly-ranked prospects who have barely seen the floor in a varsity game so far. That’s normal. It’s their potential that’s not.
THE BIGGEST 2025 STOCK RISERS
+18 Hadley Thul Hadley Thul 6'2" | SG Alexandria | 2025 State MN – guard, Alexandria
If you’ve been paying attention of late it will not at all surprise you to learn that Hadley is our biggest 2025 stock riser in this first update of the freshmen class. It’s not so much that Thul has improved – she most definitely has – but rather that more people have seen exactly what it is she is capable of. The 6’1 guard/wing has incredible length, excellent mobility and a natural feel for the game. She can take her defender off the bounce with ease and has a variety of options to choose from when it comes time to finish. The sky is the limit here which is why Thul moves up from #33 to #15 with plenty more room to grow.
+8 Danielle Coleman Danielle Coleman 6'1" | SG Lakeville South | 2025 State MN – guard, Lakeville South
Last summer and fall you could see Dani’s potential. She offered up flashes of brilliance, glimpses into a future bright enough to make you squint. This winter her moments were even more enticing against more experienced foes. Standing nearly 6 feet with impossibly long arms, terrific mobility and the kind of versatility that will carry a player far, Coleman is overflowing with potential. Dani’s consistency is improving, and so is her confidence. When everything eventually comes into alignment Coleman is going to be special. That’s why she moves up to #23.
+7 Maliyah White Maliyah White 5'8" | CG Hopkins | 2025 State MN – guard, DeLaSalle
When someone’s stock rises it is often because they have shown marked improvement. In other cases it is a recalibration of our earlier evaluation. In other words, we probably got it wrong the first time. That would be the case with Maliyah, who is one of the most talented players in the class. She’s not very big but she is very skilled and has a scorer’s touch. Last summer White played with The City on the PGH Circuit. She certainly impressed scout Don Halling of our Illinois affiliate, who said, “she has the handles, the moves and shooting range to score in bunches.” Now she also has the #35 ranking.
+5 Tatum Woodson Tatum Woodson 5'9" | CG Hopkins | 2025 State MN – guard, Hopkins
Patience is important when you wear the uniform of a powerhouse program like Hopkins. It can take time to find your way into the rotation. As has often been the case with Royals players in the past, it can be well worth the wait. This winter that has been the story for Tatum, who is the younger sister of Hopkins junior and Michigan commit Taylor Woodson Taylor Woodson 6'0" | PF Hopkins | 2023 State #28 Nation MN . The crafty guard has the speed, athleticism and skillset necessary to excel at the highest level, along with a high basketball IQ. And she plays hard. We’re excited to see what the summer brings for Woodson, who rises 5 places to #17.
+5 Anna Greene Anna Greene 6'0" | SF Mahtomedi | 2025 State MN – forward, Mahtomedi
The evolution of Anna’s game continues and everything is trending in the right direction. The 6-footer is so, so long and she has learned to employ that length to great advantage at both ends of the floor. She is a very good rebounder and an effective defender against any position. Greene is offensively productive as well, scoring both inside and out against all manner of opponents. An 18-point performance up against MSU-Mankato commit Lilly Nuytten Lilly Nuytten 6'1" | PF Hastings | 2022 State MN or Hastings was particularly impressive. She’s smoother and stronger, too. Add it all up and it’s obvious that Greene has earned an elevation to #30.
+3 Annika Southworth Annika Southworth 5'8" | PG St. Peter | 2025 State MN – point guard, St. Peter
St. Peter was ousted from section play prematurely last week but that shouldn’t take away from the fact that the Saints had an outstanding winter. One of the primary reasons for their success is the play of Southworth. The point guard teased us with her play last year, and did enough in the summer and fall to earn her way into the Freshmen 50. During the high school season, however, Annika took it to a whole other level. She averaged 14 points per game, shot the three at a 41-percent clip, and ran the St. Peter offense with skill and intelligence. Annika is a competitor and now she’s at #40.
