There were numerous quality guards who participated in the Sunshine state Showdown and in this article we highlight some of them. Some of these guards were great athletes, some were great shooters, some were great ball handlers, and some were defensive stars. They all had standout performances and left a lasting impression in the tournament.
Nina Kamma-Hill (Essence) came to play this weekend and the Freshman Guard played very well. Nina plays both ends of the court and her motor runs from the beginning of the game until the end. Kamma-Hill can shoot the ball from all levels of the court and she can take the ball to the rack. She has good handles and does a good job of getting the ball to open teammates. Defensively, Kamma-Hill plays great in your defense, has active hands, and comes up with lots of steals to give her team extra possessions. Kamma- Hill had an impressive year at Sandalwood as a Freshman. She was very confident as a Freshman and had some special moments this past high school season. Her play at the Sunshine State Showdown shows the growth that Kamma-Hill has made in the last few months.
Sy’Monique Simon (Always 100) continued from where she left off last week at Southern Jams. The Freshman guard plays with so much passion and confidence and is just a joy to watch play. Simon can shoot the three-ball, shoot the baseline floater, and take the ball to the rack. The guard does not shy away from physical play and she spends a lot of time on the floor, either from taking a hit or going for a loose ball. Simon’s defense is solid and she can really put pressure on the ball. Another solid weekend by the Freshman guard.
Alanna Tatum Alanna Tatum 5'6" | PG University Christian | 2026 State FL (ECU Family 2025) is starting off the summer off in amazing fashion. Offensively, Tatum is at her best when attacking the paint. She has a good pull-up in the mid-range area and can also get to the rim as well. She does have the ability to finish on the left or right. Defensively, she is very good on the ball and also does a great job on help-side defense as well. Tatum’s defense on transition is superb. She routinely gets back and stops the defense from getting easy buckets. She is very athletic and transition defense is where you really see it. It’s not uncommon for Tatum to get about 2 or 3 blocks per game on transition defense alone. Through every phase of the game, Tatum is unflappable and you really appreciate her demeanor on the court when you remember that she is playing up one class and is only in 8th grade. Tatum played varsity as an 8th grader at University Christian in Jacksonville and helped her team get to the Final 4 in Lakeland.
Maya Collins Maya Collins 5'9" | PG Lemon Bay | 2025 State FL (Always 100) Collins performed well in the Sunshine State Showdown and showed an array of shots, including the three-point shot, the pull-up jumper from the free-throw line in transition, and the ability to attack the rim from the left and the right side. Collins is a smart player who plays with great energy and confidence. She knows how to get to her spots on the court and she does a good job of playing with her teammates. She shares the backcourt with Sy’monique Simon and the two are a great tandem and their games complement one another. The two do a great job of creating shots for themselves, for teammates, and for each other.
Jayden Terry Jayden Terry 5'8" | CG GHS - Gainesville | 2025 State FL (ECU Family 2025) was a standout at the Sunshine State Showdown and was one of the best shooting guards in the entire building. Terry can flat-out shoot the ball from all levels of the court, but especially from the three-point line. Terry doesn’t shy away from physical play and did a great job of taking the ball to the basket as well. Terry can get nearly any shot she wants on the court and does a good job of getting to her spots on the floor. She and Alanna Tatum Alanna Tatum 5'6" | PG University Christian | 2026 State FL are becoming a great tandem as Tatum does a good job of setting up Terry for the open and “deadly” jumper.
