Many of these guards were used to the big stage after playing a full season of high school ball for the first time. In this article, we continue our look at some of the Freshman guards (or younger) who performed well in the tournament in the 15-U division.
Julia Vazquez Julia Vazquez 5'5" | CG Kings Academy | 2025 State FL 5’5 guard. What stands out about Vazquez is her competitiveness and constant motor. She does a good job of leading the fast break or filling the lanes. She consistently makes the layup or draws fouls. Vazquez draws her share of fouls because of her relentless attack on the basket. Vazquez has very good handles and handles the ball well in offensive sets and in a press break. Defensively, she does a good job in man-to-man defense and keeps her defender in front of her. Vazquez plays fast and always gives her best effort on both ends of the court.
Samantha Bautista Samantha Bautista 5'7" | CG SLAM! (Miami) | 2025 State FL , PG (Miami Suns) Bautista is one cool and calm customer on the court. It all starts with her handles as she has the ability to go anywhere she wants to go on the court. She can put the ball in either hand and drive left or right. She is a floor general on the court and the offense runs through her. When the ball is not in her hands, she does an excellent job of remaining on the move. Bautista plays on both ends of the court. She played good on-ball defense and she was also very effective a the top of the 2 -3 zone. She did a good job of playing in the passing lanes and deflecting a lot of passes. Bautista can shoot from all areas on the court and had a very nice float game.
Alinah Sarratt Alinah Sarratt 5'7" | SG Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy | 2024 State FL SG/F (Essence Black 15U). Sarratt was really a dynamic player to watch on the court, and she did some of everything – running the courts, shooting the ball, and taking the ball to the basket. Sarratt was very smooth on the court and she plays with a quiet demeanor. Her moves to the basket do the speaking for her and she can go left or right. Sarratt did a good job of playing off of her teammates to get open shots. Sarratt made some nice long jumpers and wasn’t afraid to take it in the paint as well. With her length, Sarratt showed her versatility, defending in the paint and also out in space against wing players.
Abigail Quinn, Point Guard (Boca Thunder 2025). At first glance on the court, Quinn stands out. She has the size, speed quickness, athleticism, and the game to go along with her physical attributes on the court. She is a good point guard who runs the show. She makes crisp passes and seems to always know where she wants to go with the ball. Quinn has very good handles and handles the ball well against defensive pressure. Has very good court vision and can spot open teammates quickly in the transition game. Quinn does a good job of getting to the rim and has a very good pull-up jumper in the midrange area. She is at her best in transition where she utilizes her speed and athleticism. Defensively, she does a good job of playing in the passing lanes. Quinn gets a lot of steals and deflections with her length and athleticism.
Addison Fowkes Addison Fowkes 5'6" | SG Carrollwood Day | 2025 State FL , PG (Tampa Thunder 2025) Was impressed at Fowke’s athleticism and how well she ran the floor. Fowkes has a nice shot and she also gets to the goal on penetrations. She did a nice job of shooting off of the pick and roll. Defensively, she is quick and gets her share of deflections as a result. Fowkes has active hands and plays the passing lanes well.
