Today, I would like to take a look at some underrated players from that publication. That means none of these prospects will be inside the top 10 or even the top 50. South Florida is deep and these players deserve the recognition.
Let’s have a look…
Naire Lucas Naire Lucas 5'9" | PF Miami Sr HS | 2022 State FL – Miami High (PGH: 107)
Naire Lucas Naire Lucas 5'9" | PF Miami Sr HS | 2022 State FL was a strong frontcourt prospect for a Miami High team that went 20-9 overall and reached the 7A state championship game. The 5-foot-9 forward averaged 5.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Moreover, 71 of her 159 boards came on the offensive end. Overall, Lucas had ten or more rebounds in five games. She was also active on defense with 36 steals. Lucas’ size and power has value, especially on the defensive side of the floor.
Cameron Araujo Cameron Araujo 5'8" | SG Miami Senior | 2022 State FL – Miami High (PGH: 118)
Cameron Araujo Cameron Araujo 5'8" | SG Miami Senior | 2022 State FL is another good player for the Stingarees. The 5-foot-9 shooting guard averaged 10.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 42 percent from the floor. Araujo went 31-of-91 (34 percent) from deep. Moreover, she shot 50 percent or better from the perimeter in games where she hit at least three 3-pointers. On defense, Araujo’s activity and length contributed to 54 steals. She was also a strong rebounder with five or more boards in 12 contests. Araujo has upside give her length and productivity.
Raven Hunter Raven Hunter 5'10" | CG American Heritage Delray | 2022 State FL – Delray American Heritage (PGH: 158)
Raven Hunter Raven Hunter 5'10" | CG American Heritage Delray | 2022 State FL was a terrific scorer for the Lady Stallions. The 5-foot-9 guard averaged 17.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Overall, Hunter scored in double-figures in 12 of 13 listed contests. She scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Wellington (19-6). That was one of four double-doubles for her on the season. She also tallied 43 steals on defense. Overall, Hunter’s length and scoring ability is solid.
Karla Quintero Karla Quintero 6'1" | PF SLAM! Miami | 2022 State FL – Miami SLAM! (PGH: 181)
Karla Quintero Karla Quintero 6'1" | PF SLAM! Miami | 2022 State FL was a solid frontcourt prospect for Miami Slam. The 6-foot-1 power forward/center is durable and can create space using her frame. Quintero will put herself into position for easy lay-ins right underneath the basket. In addition, her power is valuable as a rebounder and help defender. Quintero could become even better with improved footwork and further athleticism. She averaged 10.2 points and six boards per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. Furthermore, Quintero shot at least 50 percent from the floor in 8 of 13 contests in which she scored in double-figures. That shows me she can be efficient around the paint at a high volume.
Jada Beneby Jada Beneby 5'5" | CG Miami Killian Senior | 2022 State FL – Miami Killian
Jada Beneby Jada Beneby 5'5" | CG Miami Killian Senior | 2022 State FL had a productive season for Miami Killian. The 5-foot-5 combo guard averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 assists and 4.2 steals per game while shooting 42 percent from the field. Moreover, Beneby shot at least 44 percent from the floor in every game she scored at least 19 points (seven contests). She also showed her capability from long range by knocking down 32 percent of her attempts. Overall, Beneby was an effective scorer when called upon. I think you can count on her shot from all three levels at any moment. Beneby also dished out 60 assists and had 70 steals. Therefore, I think she has more upside as an all-around player.
