We released an updated rankings for the class of 2022 this week. We take a look at the top 5 in the final rankings for the class of 2022.
You can take a look at the Class of 2022 Rankings HERE:
Trying to put the class of 2022 in order is a bit challenging. The talent in the top 10 in the state of Florida is just ridiculous. All 10 players are heading to major D1 BCS schools. All of them led their high schools to spectacular season. Seven players led their teams to a top 25 national ranking. Three players in the top 10 were elected to the McDonald’s All-American Game. Two of them led their team to a state championship. Two different players were selected as Florida Player of the Year by two different entities. One of them led their team to a national championship. Here is the class of 2022 Final Top 10.
# 1 Janiah Barker Janiah Barker 6'2" | SF Montverde Academy | 2022 State #3 Nation FL (Montverde Academy) 6’2 Wing/Forward – Texas A&M
Barker led Montverde all season concluding with a Geico National Championship earlier this month. She was the team’s best player on the # 1 team in the state in the final rankings. She is 6’3, athletic, versatile, and skilled! Originally signed to the University of Georgia, with Head Coach Joni Taylor departing Georgia for Texas A&M, Barker has decided to follow, and was released from her NLI at the University of Georgia and signed with Texas A&M this month. She is expected to be a major impact player for Texas A&M from day one! In addition to winning a Geico National Championship, Barker also has been selected for a number of individual awards including being nominated to both the McDonald’s All American and Jordan Brand All American Games.
# 2 Ta’Niya Latson Ta’Niya Latson 5'8" | CG American Heritage | 2022 State #47 Nation FL (American Heritage Plantation) 5’8 Guard – Florida State
Latson bumps up to # 2 after leading American Heritage Plantation to a State Championship and averaging 27.2 points per game (which was # 5 in the entire state of Florida and 35th nationally). The uber athletic, uber talented guard can straight up drop buckets and made a huge impact in her one season of high school basketball in the state of Florida. The 5’8 Guard is headed to Florida State and has a chance to play immediately. She was one of three players in the state of Florida elected to the McDonald’s All-American Game and was also awarded Player of the Year in the State of Florida by Gatorade. Latson moves up one spot to # 2 after holding the # 3 spot in the last rankings.
# 3 Nyla Harris Nyla Harris 6'2" | PF Lake Highland Prep | 2022 State #34 Nation FL (Lake Highland Prep) 6’2 Forward – Louisville
Harris was just recently selected as Florida Player of the Year by Maxpreps after leading Lake Highland Prep to their third straight State Championship. The 6’2 Forward is headed to Louisville next year and is a walking double-double, filling the state sheet in points and rebounds including stepping up when her team needs her the most dropping 26 points and 21 rebounds in the FHSAA 4A Girls Basketball State Championship game. Harris moves up one spot to # 3 after holding the # 2 spot in the last rankings.
# 4 Tonie Morgan Tonie Morgan 5'9" | PG FSUHS | 2022 State #18 Nation FL (Florida State University HS) 5’9 Guard – Georgia Tech
Morgan has long been one of my favorite players in the class of 2022. She finished out her stellar high school career at Florida State University High School by leading her team to a 20-4 record, falling to eventual state champion Westminster Academy in the Final 4. Morgan averaged an impressive 20.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. She was recently invited to the USA Basketball U18 National Team trials and was selected as the Florida Dairy Farmers Association 3A Player of the Year.
# 5 Grace VanSlooten Grace VanSlooten 6'3" | PF IMG Academy | 2022 State #23 Nation FL (IMG Academy) 6’3 Forward – Oregon
VanSlooten transferred to IMG Academy from Ohio for her Senior year and was one of three McDonald’s All Americans that played high school in the sunshine state this year along with the already mentioned Janiah Barker Janiah Barker 6'2" | SF Montverde Academy | 2022 State #3 Nation FL and Ta’Niya Latson Ta’Niya Latson 5'8" | CG American Heritage | 2022 State #47 Nation FL . IMG has long been known for their boys program competing on a national level but VanSlooten along with Kailyn Gilbert Kailyn Gilbert 5'8" | CG IMG Academy | 2022 State FL burst the girls squad onto the national scene this year traveling out of state to compete against the who’s who of top 25 national programs defeating perennial powers like St. Johns (DC), St. Paul VI (VA), Pickerington Central (OH), including competing in the GEICO Nationals as well as defeating some of the top teams in Florida such as American Heritage, Miami Country Day and a big end of the year win vs DME Academy. Through all of it, VanSlooten showcased a college ready body with a high IQ, and a big time offensive skill set. She is signed and will be suiting it up for the University of Oregon next season!
