We released an updated rankings for the class of 2022 this week. Trying to put the class of 2022 in order is a bit challenging. The talent in the top 10 in the state of Florida is just ridiculous. All 10 players are heading to major D1 BCS schools. All of them led their high schools to spectacular season. Seven players led their teams to a top 25 national ranking. Three players in the top 10 were elected to the McDonald’s All-American Game. Two of them led their team to a state championship. Two different players were selected as Florida Player of the Year by two different entities. One of them led their team to a national championship. While the top 5 had a small shakeup, 6-10 stays in the same order as the previous rankings. Here is the class of 2022 Final Top 10.
You can take a look at the Class of 2022 Rankings HERE:
# 6 Kailyn Gilbert Kailyn Gilbert 5'8" | CG IMG Academy | 2022 State FL (IMG Academy) 5’8 Guard – Arizona
Gilbert can flat out go! She gets from one end of the floor to the other in a flash. She can jump out of the gym. She has a super explosive first step and she has elite level speed, athletics, and hops! Gilbert, along with Grace VanSlooten Grace VanSlooten 6'3" | PF IMG Academy | 2022 State #23 Nation FL jumped IMG Academy into the national conversation this year with their stellar play. Gilbert, a 5’8 guard is headed to the University of Arizona next season and has the potential to crack the rotation immediately as a Freshman.
# 7 Sydney Shaw Sydney Shaw 5'9" | SG DME Academy | 2022 State FL (DME Academy) 5’9 Guard – Auburn
Shaw transferred to DME Academy from American Heritage Plantation for her Senior season and helped lead them to 26-4 record, a national ranking, and an appearance in the prestigious GEICO Nationals. Shaw averaged 12.5 points per game, showcasing an elite scoring ability and a high basketball IQ. Shaw’s ability to create her own shot off the dribble is impressive and her outside shooting is even deadlier. Shaw is headed to Auburn next season and finishes as the # 7 ranked player in the class of 2022 rankings!
# 8 Savannah Henderson Savannah Henderson 6'1" | SF Timber Creek | 2022 State #46 Nation FL (Timber Creek) 6’1 Wing – Georgia
Henderson has had quite the month as her mom became the new head coach at the University of Georgia. With Henderson having signed to play for her mom at University of Central Florida, she requested out of her scholarship agreement and is now headed to Athens, GA to suit it up for the Bulldogs. Henderson is a big, tall, long, athletic wing that brings 3-point shooting and a defensive presence. Her future head coach (and mom) had this to say when signing her to a full scholarship “Defensively, we brought Savannah in to be that long, tall athletic guard up at the front of the press. She can play at the front of the press, wants to play at the front of the press. She loves to run and jump; she’s super athletic, long and tall. She’s got a beautiful shot. She can shoot from anywhere and she’s not afraid to shoot it. She’s really going to extend our game at the 3-spot with her three-point shot.”
# 9 Amiya Evans Amiya Evans 6'2" | PF DME Academy | 2022 State FL (DME Academy) 6’2 Forward – Undecided
Amiya is another one that has had a roller coaster of a month as she was also signed and headed to play for Coach Henderson at UCF. With the coaching change, Evans recently asked out of her scholarship agreement and is the only player that is undecided in the top 10 in the class of 2022. During the season, Evans transferred to DME Academy along with Sydney Shaw Sydney Shaw 5'9" | SG DME Academy | 2022 State FL , and made an immediate impact upon her arrival averaging 9 points and 7 rebounds per game and helping DME to a 26-4 record, a national ranking, and an appearance in the prestigious GEICO Nationals. Evans is a big, strong presence in the paint, who has an imposing body that is college ready. She has the ability to go inside and out but is most effective inside 5 feet, utilizing her size and strength. She has opened up her recruiting process and she is the top ranked player available in the class of 2022 and finishes the season as # 9 in the class of 2022 rankings.
# 10 Kyla Abraham Kyla Abraham 6'5" | PF Smithfield (VA) | 2022 State FL (Smithfield (VA)) 6’5 Forward/Center – Baylor
Abraham finished her final season in Virginia, due to her dad being transferred for an employment opportunity through the military but we keep her in the Florida rankings as she played her first three seasons in Florida and played travel ball with the Miami Suns. Abraham, standing at 6’5, was the top center in the class of 2022 and signed to play at Baylor! Her future head coach at Baylor Nicki Collen had this to say about her in her press release from signing “Kyla has incredible potential. She has great size and athleticism along with good natural instincts. Right now, she meets the four R’s for us – rim running, rim protecting, rolling and rebounding. We hope to develop her perimeter game over time.”
