The Sunshine State Showdown kicked off the travel season in April. Central Florida Elite 16U 3SSB was impressive throughout the weekend. Here are four Central Florida Elite players that stood out at the Sunshine State Showdown.
Jayshlynn Vega Jayshlynn Vega 5'4" | PG Central Pointe Academy | 2025 State FL (CFE 16U 3SSB) – 5’6 Point Guard – Class of 2025
Vega is a crafty and flashy pass first point guard. She is very good in transition and in ball screens. She handles the ball well vs pressure, has excellent court vision and throws lead passes to teammates for easy buckets. She is very good off the dribble and has a big time cross over move, often splitting paints and getting into the teeth of the defense to score or create a shot for a teammate. She has a commanding presence on the floor, serving as the obvious leader of the team and an extension of the coach on the court. She is a strong communicator, speaking with coaches and teammates during timeouts, setting up defensive schemes during free throws, and overall directing traffic throughout the game. She does a good job balancing pushing the tempo and slowing things down and setting up a set in the half court. She knocks down the open 3 and uses ball fakes well to freeze defenders and kick to corner shooters
Brooklyn Henderson (CFE 16U 3SSB) – 6’0 Forward – Class of 2024
Henderson is an aggressive rebounder who plays bigger than her 6’0 frame. She uses her athleticism and fast twitch muscles to get off the floor quickly and outrebound bigger and stronger post players. She is very active, using swim moves and lateral fakes, to get around opponents and pursue and chase down rebounds. She uses her body well in the paint, seeking out contact and doing a good job at finishing through contact as well as getting to the free throw line. She is a capable ball handler and does a good job flashing to the high post and getting touches at the elbows.
Carmen Richardson Carmen Richardson 5'8" | CG Colonial | 2024 State FL (CFE 16U 3SSB) – 5’8 Guard – Class of 2024
Richardson is a big, athletic guard that serves as a secondary ball handler for CFE. She uses her size well to rebound from the perimeter position and grab defensive rebounds to start the break. She has a quick 3-point release and does a good job moving without the ball and coming off of screens to catch and shoot from the wings and corners. She does a good job finishing at the rim with the right and left hand, although seems to be more comfortable and a better finisher going left. several good looks off of pin down screens
Nicole Carreno Nicole Carreno 5'10" | SF Seffner Christian | 2024 State FL (CFE 16U 3SSB) – 6’0 Forward – Class of 2024
Similar to Brooklyn Henderson, Carreno is a an undersized big that rebounds the ball well and plays bigger than her frame. She is a 6’0 inside/out forward who can stretch it out all the way to the 3. Her versatility is one of her biggest attributes, as she has the ability to put it to the floor, and make passes to teammates for easy shots, when defenses close her out to take away the 3. She is very effective at flashing to the high post, knocking down 15” jumpers and making touch passes for easy buckets on the block. She plays at her best when she has high energy and the games are close and competitive. She provides CFE excellent spurts of offensive output, capable of putting together 6-0 and 8-0 runs by herself.
